I'm doubtful that $85 will be enough for these dates, but if you want to give it a try...

When bidding 4* in the Philadelphia region you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Rittenhouse Square...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $85

Any questions feel free to ask.

What is your game plan from here... wait it out and hope for lower rates in the weeks ahead? (or did you need to pair this with airline tickets which were on sale now won't make the trip if you can't book all at once?)

I'm looking for a night in Philadelphia for 9/2 - 9/3, so I have been paying attention to these dates.

I know you said you wanted a 4* hotel, but if you go to LMTClub.com, you can get the 3.5* Radisson Plaza Warwick, that is in this zone, for $75/night + taxes and fees for your dates.

I haven't bought it yet for my date, as I'm still holding out hope of getting a cheaper PRICELINE bid near the end, but I am considering it.

The Crowne Plaza Philadelphia Downtown is $83 + taxes and fees for these dates.

I can't say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay, but at the moment i don't think your bids are close... what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels?

Through conventional booking, I have found rooms for around $239 per night.

At this point, I have to consider a 3* hotel, but I'm a little worried about some of the reviews I have seen.

I will continue to try PRICELINE in hopes of a better deal

Through conventional booking, I have found rooms for around $239 per night.

So your bids thus far are only about 1/3 of prevailing rates... not a high probability bet.

I haven't looked extensively, but sub-$100 'downtown' may even be a problem at the 3.5* or 3* levels based upon current rates. I think you need to find the best deal you're able thru traditional booking channels, then decide how much of a discount you need of that rate to make an opaque purchase worthwhile (rather than how much you want to spend)... or consider areas outside of 'downtown' if you can make other zones work for your plans. Probably not as convenient for your needs but that's would be the trade-off between price vs. convenience.
