RonJ Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Started at $40 for the area just south of Deerfield and worked my way up. Eventually, I had to wait a day to start over, so my $48 for a 4* got rejected, but they took my $52 bid for 3.5* in Deerfield. Thanks so much for providing this service as well as all your great advice.
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Congrats on your success! :)Very, very nice deal for this property. I've stayed here twice and enjoyed it quite a bit. The rooms are also very nicely laid-out, with a large main room, refrigerator, separate bedroom and large bathroom accessible from both the main and bedroom area. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
AaronJB Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Some various notes/directions:A big note: this property is tucked back in a very nice office park and it's not readily apparent when going by on Deerfield Road (the main road that runs next to the office park) - there is a sign, but it's not big. If you're heading West on Deerfield road, there's the expressway, a small turnoff for a frontage road on the South side of the street, then the next is Parkway North - that's the turnoff for the office park. The Marriott is towards the back of the office park. A few other properties in this zone are similarly placed within office parks, such as the Hyatt (which is next to Walgreens HQ.)Metra: I'm seeing a few conflicting notes as to whether or not this property has a shuttle - I haven't seen it when staying there, but I may have just missed it. If they do have a shuttle, I'm guessing they will definitely be able to take you to the Deerfield Metra station. There is a fair amount of parking at this station (http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/maps_schedules/metra_system_map/md-n/station.view.DEERFIELD.html), although it may be mostly taken up during the weekday rush. Station Parking Contact # 847-945-5000, although on the weekend there will likely be quite a few spaces available. There's a mall right by this station with a large Whole Foods. The other station nearby that has more parking is the Lake Cook station (http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/maps_schedules/metra_system_map/md-n/station.LAKECOOKRD.html), which is the next station South of the Deerfield station. Parking at both stations is a daily fee of $1.50.If you want to go to the beach:Highland Park has not charged in the past (unless things have changed): Take Deerfield Road East towards the lake and you'll pass through Deerfield, then there's 5-7 minutes of neighborhood, then Deerfield turns into Central and goes into downtown Highland Park (which has a wide variety of restaurant options) Central will cross the train tracks, then you'll see St Johns. Go North on St Johns to St Johns and Park, then take Park going East, which goes down to the lake. Beach: http://www.pdhp.org/index.aspx?page=171In terms of going up to Wisconsin, the Marriott Deerfield is next to the expressway - if you head up on i-94, once you get across the border into Wisconsin, highway 50 is not far after the border cross. At 50, there's a really nice high-end outlet mall that's always jammed, as well as a massive grocery (Woodman's) and the Brat Stop - a concert place/restaurant/cheese store, which is an institution. Another institution a little further North on the expressway is Mars Cheese Castle (http://www.marscheese.com/)Or, if Madison is next, you could go the non-Expressway way (primarily route 12), which goes through Lake Geneva (a beautiful resort town about an 75 minutes NW) on the way to Madison. If you let me know likes/dislikes, I'd be happy to suggest restaurant options nearby the Marriott and downtown. Please let me know any other local questions, as well.
