AinA Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 I did a search and could not find anything at all about Juneau. I see that the 3* hotel is likely the Baranof. Last night I bid $75 for a 3* in JNU July 23 and was denied. I do not believe I have any option for rebid since I cannot change my dates and I didn't want to lower the star level.Priceline did not suggest I up my price by any amount but did say the median price for a 3* in Juneau was $99.The Baranof is coming up at $138 & change at Travelocity & Orbitz and $139 through the Westmark Baranoff home site.I am not sure there is any bidding help possible on this one? Thanks,Alison
thereuare Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 Unfortunately not much you can do except wait out the 72 hours and try again at a higher price. If any of the above are cancellable i would book it just to make sure you have something while you continue to bid. AinA Posted July 22, 2005 Author Report Posted July 22, 2005 Well... I tried again, this time I bid $85 then when I didn't win I added 2* and was still declined.Again no counter offered. This time Priceline told me the median for a 2*was $139.I am going to take the Travelodge through the shop & compare feature of Priceline in order to get the $10 AmEx check. It will be a very convenient facility anyway since it is in the Mendenhall Valley. I am doing a weekend market down the road and I am not sure about parking at the Baranof downtown. A bonus, the travelodge has an indoor pool, my back is looking forward to that!As always, love this site, perhaps someday I will find that break point and we will have some data for Juneau!Alisonp.s.Juneau is incredibly beautiful, if anyone is considering a trip to SE Alaska... Go! We used to live outside of Ketchikan and I forgot how much I missed SE, definitely a must see.
thereuare Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Thanks for the follow-up... you are our resident expert on Alaska.I forget the city in Alaska this occured at but a fond memory was at the Salty Dog Saloon where there is a BIG sign:"If your food and service are not up to your standards.... lower your standards"I remember getting a big kick out of that! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AinA Posted July 26, 2005 Author Report Posted July 26, 2005 Yes! That is the Salty Dog in Homer, Alaska. It could pretty much apply to the entire state though :)I have since bid some more and have hit $105 for a 2*/3* in Juneau dates 7/30 and/or 7/31.I will probably end up spending more than the room cost just so I can find out that magic $. I am scheduled to be in Juneau overnight 1x/week for the rest of the summer so I'll have lots of opportunity.Again, can't help but plug S.E. Alaska. Absolutely gorgeous. I live in S. Central Alaska (just outside of Anchorage) and it is impressive here, but nothing compared to the Panhandle.Alison
