jeffdiver1 Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 Yes, I'm a newbie to AMS & PL/HW. I think I got the concept - lowball a bid, get rejected and "change" requirements bid again and gete what you want?Requirements:July 9-12 Museum district (but the bidding map only allows you to pick city center/museum district which is a huge area) though 5*'s are in the area I'd accept.I'm booked in a 3* tourist class hotel for $340 inc. breakfast/taxes but in a very nice location. For me to better my deal I'd want a 5* at around the same price (around $115/nt) and PL range there is @$248-461I looked at 4* too which range from $90-301 , I'd take some of the 4* too but I'd be bummed to get the Holiday Inn @ $90- no dealioSo what should I do to get 5* for around a C note?Cannot wait to try this!
WillTravel Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 I'm not sure where you're getting the prices from. Based on counteroffers I have been getting in August, and other people's bids, I suspect you could win a 4* hotel for a bid in the range of $90-100 USD. You don't have to worry about getting the Holiday Inn if you just bid for the City Centre/Museum Quarter on Priceline, because Holiday Inn is in the South zone. The Hilton Amsterdam is a 5* hotel that comes up on Priceline in the CC/MQ that many people consider too far out, so take a look. The NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, which is a classic and famous centrally-located 5* hotel, is about 140 Euros/night for your dates, on http://www.bookings.org
jeffdiver1 Posted June 26, 2005 Author Report Posted June 26, 2005 for giggles I bid $100 for a 5* museum area and they instantly offered me the room for $140 and about $42 in taxes & fees- I declined. The Grand Kras. may be nice but it's a pretty huge jump from where I am @140 eur.
WillTravel Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 Yes, the 140 Euros works out to about $169 USD right now, which is about the same as your 5* counteroffer. I would guess the counteroffer is for the Hilton Amsterdam, which seems to be the cheaper of the 5* hotels in this zone.
