Hi guys,

I am traveling to Vegas Dec 30 - Jan 2. I want to stay at 5* hotel in North & South strip.

I know I will be traveling during a busy time in Vegas, but my recent bid on Priceline.com was $201 and they still decline it. Last year I put a bid for $130 and they took it no problem.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

NYE is unfortunately one of the most expensive days of the year - HOTWIRE is showing $324 for what appears to be the Trump, and $383 for a 5* South for 12/30-1/2 and more reasonable rates for 4*'s. 1/1-1/2 is significantly cheaper when viewed separately, but the problem remains 12/30-1/1.

What would be your desired budget per night? Would you be willing to split your stay?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

You might look at the hotel web sites themselves. Las Vegas hotel web sites sometimes have package deals better than what is available elsewhere. There are quite a few links in the Las Vegas Checker under "Tools" and more under "Support Page".

The 4*s are of course an option.

You could split your bid, going for 4* the first two nights and then 5* the last.

If you book a cancelable back-up reservation, you can keep bidding until the very last, hoping rates come down.

Any suggestions?

What is the best rate you're able to find thru traditional booking channels for this stay? What is your maximum bid before you would consider downgrading your minimum star rating to a 4* property OR consider the North Condo zone?

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (and please read your messages)

Thanks.

Hi again and THANK YOU all to those who have replied and gave their suggestions! I truly appreciate it.

I went back on Priceline.com and re-bid... I am very disappointed with the results :( I guess I made a big mistake.

I booked Tropicana for $171/night. Pricline lists tropicana under 4* rating. I have stayed at Tropicana before, and it's probably one of the worst hotel I've stayed in the strip (Hilton by the convention center, which is 3* - 3.5* rating is much better)

I would like to ask everyone here what I could do to cancel this reservation (I know, I know... I would need god's luck to get it done, but I'd like to ask the experts!)

Thanks again!

Sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the result. :(

This property was renovated recently; hopefully the hotel will exceed expectations this time around. You can try calling PRICELINE, but it's unlikely the reservation can be cancelled.

Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.

Well, it's true that the Tropicana USED to be a dump, but a year ago, it was treated to a $180 Million top to bottom renovation. And right now, it is, IMHO, one of the nicest 4* properties on the strip. I just stayed there from Jan 2-5, of course, that being a slow week, I paid a tiny fraction of what it cost on Dec. 31. But the hotel itself is VERY nice, and much more intimate than most Vegas Mega-properties like Monte Carlo, Mirage, MGM, Treasure Island, etc. I'd go so far as to say that it is every bit as nice as any of those places. And if you want to spend time in a mega Casino with a dozen restaurants, the dining options and casinos of MGM, New York New York, and Excaliber are all about 100 yard walks away. The Trop's casino is also quite unusual for Vegas, and though very small, it is also quite bright and airy, a total change of pace from every other casino in town. Unfortunately, I didn't win any money there, but I didn't lose much either.

The new management and renovation of the Tropicana has resulted in the most dramatic improvement I have ever seen to a property. It has been transformed from a Circus-Circus caliber dump to a really NICE 4*, that I would frankly say right now might be the nicest 4* on the entire strip - especially if the huge size of the MGM and Mirage is not really what you're looking for.
