norwegianwife Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 Hello all! Ok, so I know there is no way to 'choose' your hotel on Priceline, BUT we want to try and manipulate things as best we can to land the Pan Pacific. We know it is a crapshoot, so here we go!First of all, does anyone know which zone the Pan Pacific is in? Is it USW or USE??Our free rebid zones are-South SanFranSFOCivic CenterCathedral HIllWant to keep it under 100 bucks.would love some sugesstions for a bidding strategy! Thanks in advance!
BEAV Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 Pan Pacific is in the Union Square WEST zone. With four free rebid zones, plus six weeks before your stay, I'd probably start in the upper $60's or low $70's. Have you checked current prices for 4-star hotels in this zone? That of course is a very important factor, especially if there are conventions in town. Good luck...and I hope you're not too disappointed if you don't land the Pan Pacific. Pan Pacifc has a lot of 4* hotels to compete with, namely Hilton, Renaissance Parc 55, Renaissance Stanford Court, Nikko and Monaco.
thereuare Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Even on Hotwire you don't have the ability to identify this hotel, as it has the same amenities as The Clift. For your dates there is a hotel showing which is likely one of the two, but i think if you have your heart set on the Pan Pacific you are setting yourself up for potential disappointment. Then there is the dilemna that it is recommended to NOT BID HIGHER FOR A SPECIFIC HOTEL. travelgal Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 I was successful in getting the Pan Pacific for $85 for July 2-5 and started bid for 4* USW starting at $70 and kept adding free rebids, when I got to $80 I added USE and bid $85 and ended up with the Pan Pacific Hotel. You might be successful - good luck.
norwegianwife Posted June 19, 2005 Author Report Posted June 19, 2005 Thanks everyone! This situation is just like our New York one was...We would like to land the Pan Pacific, but a four star is a four star and we would be happy with whatever we got as long as it is is USE or USW...just centrally located!Sorry I left out the info in the first post, but 4* hotels are running from 169 and up on those night. Seems to be pretty reasonable. So, for these two zones, is the best strategy to follow the one laid out by travelgal? Start with USW at 60 or 70 and keep adding free rebids until 80 and add USE at 85? Not sure what adding USE did for her, was probably more the price of 85 in USW?? Ok. Thanks all!
BEAV Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 If you want a hotel in USW, then don't include USE in any of your bids. If you're okay with either zone, them make separate bids, rather than lumping USE and USW into the same bids. That will maximize your number of bidding opportunities. Good luck!
thereuare Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Would you be happy in USW or USE... or would you prefer to try only for USW since that is where the Pan Pacific is located? (though i don't recommend trying to target a specific hotel)Let us know and we'll advise of a strategy.
