Polarbert Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Hey guys,I've been trying to get a hotel downtown for next weekend, we've bid up to $111 a night with no luck so far. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions or ideas about what sort of price we should go up to in order to secure a hotel in this area? Many thanks
poley Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Labor Day weekend is going to be hard to find hotels discounting their rates. Right now most 4+ star hotels are going for 230+ a night on sites like hotels .com. You may need to bring your star level or book further out from downtown
AaronJB Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Polarbert,What would be your desired max bid per night for this stay?Thank you for using th esite's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Polarbert Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 We'd probably go up to around 135-140 I guess. We'd also be willing to consider San Diego Coastal, Coronado, and the Del Mar areas
Polarbert Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 Oh something I forgot to mention that when we bid $115, we got one of those things where it offers you a deal, and it was at $147. That means that we were close to getting a secure bid doesn't it? Its been a while since I've done this.

Polarbert Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 Okay I've done that. Greatly appreciate the help. :)Whats the next move?

Given the counter-offer, did you want to bid for just Downtown up t your $140 limit OR did you want to hope for a lower rated in one of the other zones you listed also also willing to consider? It basically comes down to whether price or location is more important to you for this stay.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Polarbert Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 It would be nice to be downtown, but we are flexible. The only thing we want is that it has to be a four star.
Colfax Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 We'd also be willing to consider San Diego Coastal, Coronado, and the Del Mar areasThe only thing we want is that it has to be a four star.Del Mar zone only goes as high as 3.5*, so rule that one out.Do you want to bid to your $140 limit in Downtown zone first; then if rejected bid to $140 for a 4* in Coastal and Coronado? Or are you looking for the least expensive 4* that's available in any of those three zones?
Polarbert Posted September 1, 2011 Author Report Posted September 1, 2011 We wouldn't mind staying in any of those areas. We did it up to $140 but got nowhere. At the moment we've decided to try again in a few weeks when its not labor day and will possibly be cheaper.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Sorry to see you've had to postpone this trip.Let us know once you're ready to bid again for a new set of dates.Enjoy the weekend with whatever you decide to do.
