TeeJBee Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Visited Priceline, saw airfare in the $260 - $720 range. Am open to traveling at any hour those days. Budget is $180 inclusive of fees. Would appreciate any/all suggestions on how to bid.Thx

TeeJBee Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 According to Pricelline's "Your Trip Summary" there are $50.95 of fees and tax on an airfate of $180.
thereuare Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 So this makes your maximum bid ~$130, correct? You can use the tips in this thread Priceline Airfare Re-Bidding (note the second post in particular) to get an almost unlimited number of re-bids... you can start low with say a $75 bid ($125 all-in) and gradually increase by $10-$25/bid until you reach your maximum bid.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. TeeJBee Posted September 21, 2011 Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 Started bidding at $75 and bid ten times, increasing bid to $141 (which made my total $180.55) and was unsuccessful. Sigh. Is there any point in trying again this evening using the same amounts up to my maximum, in hope that inventory might be released? Can I also bid on the day of travel? Thanks for the advice.
thereuare Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 You can try bidding again, but as you point out, you're basically riding on lower priced inventory being released between now and your departure. Although it's been getting substantially better over the last two months or so, worthwhile deals on airfare are still somewhat far and few between... many flights run at or near full occupancy, and if there are open seats, airlines prefer to hold them in hopes of selling them to walk-up passengers who will pay top dollar. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. TeeJBee Posted September 22, 2011 Author Report Posted September 22, 2011 Throwing in the towel for this trip; maybe next time.... One small suggestion: move the thread Priceline Airfare Re-Bidding to the Important Topics section at the top of the Airfare forum. I really appreciate all your help and always start my attempts using the board PRICELINE link. Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 22, 2011 Report Posted September 22, 2011 Sorry your bids weren't successful, as noted, big savings on airfare can be hard to come by, but it does happen, so it's worth trying... but it's increasingly difficult with little time on your hands before departure. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.
