Sota327 Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I just booked the Renaissance Washington D.C. on Priceline for three nights, September 14-17. I have been trying for the last week for 3-4 star hotel up to $120 in both Capital Hill and White House areas. Today I started with 3.5 Star in Convention Center/Capital Hill area at $120 (I started with 3.5 star because I really preferred the reported hotels in that star rating to the 4-star hotels; I started at $120 knowing that bid had previously been rejected and was unlikely to be successful). When looking at booking through hotels directly as a back-up I had observed that the night of the 14th was the biggest issue with trying to get a good deal. Many hotels were charging $300-400 for the night of the 14th, but the rates for the 15th and 16th were under $200. I even tried to split some reservations, but I could never book the night of the 14th by itself (I was always told it was sold out (at least at those hotels I was interested in), but available if I included it in a reservation for three nights. But when I tired to book 3 nights, I got charged the higher rate for all three nights and didn't get the benefit of the stand alone lower rates for Thursday and Friday night). But, Priceline came through today! My first bid was $120, rejected and offered free rebid if I raised to $146 (I declined)added first rebid zone and went to $125, rejectedadded second rebid zone and went to $133, accepted.Offer Price: avg. per room, per night $133.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 3 + Add nights for the same rate! Room Subtotal: $399.00 Taxes & Fees: $66.45 Total Charged to Card: $465.45 This booking is for my mother-in-law who is beyond THRILLED. The goal was to be within a couple of block from the Metro, close to the sites and under $500 total.

Sota327 Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 As a follow up . . . .I called the hotel directly to "request two double beds, if available" and the folks at the Renaissance actually "confirmed" two double beds. I was pleasantly surprised. Usually they just make a note of the request on the reservation and it is up to the desk clerk. I think this is the first time a hotel has actually confirmed two double beds prior to check in.
thereuare Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Great... glad to hear the hotel is willing/able to accommodate your request. Hopefully the start to a good stay! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Sota327 Posted September 22, 2011 Author Report Posted September 22, 2011 One final update . . . upon arrival the folks at the Renaissance upgraded the room to a Junior Suite. Everyone there was very nice. The concierge was the best!
