Priceline Hotel: HELP: Jersey City 6/10-6/12

Hi all,

I was trying to find a nice (and hopefully romantic) 3-4* hotel for 2 nights in NYC but being a cheap student doesn't help much... I read here about the Jersey City Hyatt deal but understood from this forum that prices went up lately. My question is what star level and location should I put in priceline to guarantee this hotel? and what price would you recommend starting my bid with? I'm looking for the coming weekend - June 10-12.

If not this hotel, can anyone recommend another good deal in or close to Manhattan for low price yet romantic room/location? I can go as high as $100/night but am really trying to save every penny here...

thanks so much!

on the Hyatt website, which may be accessed through the Travel Links to Help Support BetterBidding, the rate for each night is $139 which seems like a pretty good deal. Maybe this means that the hotel has anticipated low occupancy?? If you go this route, check any terms and restrictions as this may be a non-cancellable rate. Hotwire only shows a 2.5* for $106 which is the Candlewood Suites, not very romantic, unless a stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher in your room appeals to you :) The Hyatt does not appear on Hotwire. The other 3* hotel is the Doubletree Suites, not as nice as the JC Hyatt, but still a good deal. Remember, you're not bidding for a specific hotel, just a hotel with "star" rating. If you go this route, you may get the Doubletree, is this acceptable?

Dahammer, nice find... I actually think demand may be strong this weekend as Hotwire doesn't seem to show any availability, and this $139 rate is a "last minute" rate to try to fill the room.

Given the tight demand, and high prices, for this weekend in NYC, i would try to push your budget a bit and take this offer thru the HYATT's website as it truly is the best alternative.

If you just can't do it, let us know and we'll try to find another alternative, but i do believe it's going to be a distant second choice.

you might just want to book this now, then try to go the Priceline route, understand you may end up with the Doubletree. You can't get any more romantic than the JC Hyatt, with the NY skyline in the background, a little champagne, rose petals, chocolate, prosciutto with melon, Barry White on the CD.... :)

Not one to ruin the mood, but (self) parking is $15 a day at this hotel :)

Given a $139 rate direct from Hyatt, it would be interesting to see what it would take to win using Priceline. I wonder why the hotel revenue manager would want to run a "fire sale" for all to see rather than fill rooms using an opaque service like Hotwire? I'd be really P-O'd if I reserved at $200 only to find out that rooms were available for $139.

thanks for your reply guys!

Will there be any difference between he "Prevailing Rate" ($139) and the "Hyatt.Com Rate" ($159) in terms of the room we will get?

Also, I tried bidding for 3* on priceline and didn't get anything for $100... am I better off trying to have my girlfriend bid for $110-115 or it's too risky and I might get Doubletree? parking is not an issue since we're not brining our car.

Can any of you recommend any other good deal for around or less than a $100 per night for a 3* romantic hotel/location in or around Manhattan? We are not too picky as for the hotel, as long as the rooms are nice and there's an overall romantic mood :)

thanks again, you guys are great!

Re-read my comments above... i think this is the best deal you are going to find for this date.

Book this cancellable deal thru the HYATT website (please use our link to do so) before it disappears. Then you can decide whatever you want to do regarding Priceline, although i'm somewhat doubtful it is currently available thru the opaque suppliers for this date.

Yo, Av....the race goes to the swiftest, book this room at the $139 RIGHT NOW as this rate could dissappear, it may be cancelled up to a day before. You will be glad you did and you will thank the board upon your return. You will be staying in a great hotel with a beautiful view of NYC. The romance is up to you, but this hotel will provide the right setting. OK, Skip the Barry White if you'd like, nothing else :)

During the week, this hotel often goes for $249 or so, at $139, you have a bargain, the savings will help you with an extensive room service tab :)

you might pay $300 a night across the river in NYC, and are in essence paying Days Inn rates for superior accomodations.
