tiffanymp Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Hello,I've been trying to get a 3*, 3.5* or 4* in San Fran (both Union Squares and SOMA) for Sept 9 through Sept 12. I started bidding for 4* in these areas at $110, went up to $150 with no success. My partner then tried a 4* in these areas and went up to $165 with no success. Then I tried 3.5 in these areas starting at $130, used the free re-bidding to go up to $150, still no sucess. I tried 3* in these areas at 150 and got nothing.... I'm at a loss. Any assistance or advice you can offer? Thank you!
Gallus50 Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Rates are through the roof, even on HW. And on LMT, prices are high and many hotels are on request. I don't say this very often, but you might want to consider changing the dates of your trip. That, or be ready to fork out some serious $$$$.
tiffanymp Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 Unfortunately, changing our dates is not an option, our flights are already booked... any thoughts on what 3, 3.5, and 4 stars are going for this weekend? I just need an idea of what I should be bidding at... Thanks :)
Gallus50 Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 If you look at the calendar of wins at the top of the page, hotels have been won for $150 - $190, so you could try up to $200. On LastMinuteTravel.com, they have the 4.5* Hyatt Embarcadero for $145, but it is on request. I would bid and if you get shut out, try the request because that will probably be the best you can do, if it comes through. (You can easily ID on LMT - use Beav's method from the Run of House section.) They also have the Warwick for $195, but I think that is on request, too. HW is high, but they have what looks like the 3* Holiday Inn Golden Gateway for $192. I would check conventional channels for this hotel to make sure the price is the best you can get. I have stayed there. It's a bit out of the way, but easy to access w/California line cable car. It's also across Van Ness from the Whole Foods, which is handy for wine and provisions. : )Almost all the other listings on HW are over $200, except for a Civic Center South 3*. I personally don't like CCS - it's kinda icky over there. Hope this helps. Let us know how you do.
tiffanymp Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 funny you suggest that, we actually applied for the Hyatt 'on request' and didn't get it :) ...we're thinking of maybe trying a 2.5* in SOMA or one of the Union Squares.. I looked them up using the list that was recently posted and they look pretty decent. Have you heard anything about the 2.5* in these areas? This is all very helpful stuff! I'm new to the bidding game so trying to not get too stressed out lol
Colfax Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 If you want 4*/3.5*/3* near Union Square you'll need to go higher than $150.If $150 is your limit you can try for 2.5* near Union Square or try for 3* or 2.5* in one or both of the two Civic Center zones. Read reviews for the Pickwick Hotel to help you decide if you want to bid for 2.5* in SOMA zone.HOTWIRE has a 3* in Japantown-Civic Center North for $192 that looks like Holiday Inn Golden Gateway:Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, HighspeedYou can probably win a 3* in PRICELINE's Civic Center North zone for less than $192. It might be Holiday Inn or something else. If you want to try for that on PL I suggest bidding $110 for 3*; then add the four Downtown zones (where you were already rejected to $150) and edge up to $150.Some of the 2.5* near Union Square have some class and charm (e.g. King George) and some are pretty faded (e.g. Powell Hotel). I wouldn't say any of the reported 2.5* is in a dangerous area though. If Priceline has a 2.5* available near Union Square I suspect even that will be $100-150.Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your puchases.
tiffanymp Posted August 31, 2011 Author Report Posted August 31, 2011 Finally got something!! 3.5* Argonaut - Kimpton Hotel in Fisherman's Wharf for $200/night... a bit more then what we were expecting, but relieved we found something!!! Thanks for all the help!! :)
