Nick- Canada Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Hello,A group of us are going to San Francisco for Sept 22-27. What is the best method to bid on 4 rooms? Ideally, we are looking to stay in Union Square and would like at a minimum 3*.The most we are willing to pay is $150/night. Is this possible? Thanks for your help!

Nick- Canada Posted August 29, 2011 Author Report Posted August 29, 2011 Hello,I have replied to my previous posts and have also clicked on the PRICELINE link provided. Thanks
thereuare Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 I don't think there is too much of a chance above 3*, but did you want to try the higher star levels first OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Also, please confirm that both USE and USW are acceptable. Please confirm/clarify the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Nick- Canada Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 Ideally we would like at a minimum 3*. 4* would be our top choice so we would probably try starting there. Yes, we can stay in either USE or USW. I think those are pretty central to all the sites we want to see. We would also be willing to stay in Fisherman's Wharf. Thanks for your help
thereuare Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones, at the 3.5* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* USE...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USW...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USE and USW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150If the above is rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* USE and USW...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Fishermans Wharf...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* USE and USW and Fishermans Wharf...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150I think the bids above will likely fall short, but let's start with the above, if rejected post back and we'll suggest a strategy at the 3* level. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Nick- Canada Posted September 5, 2011 Author Report Posted September 5, 2011 Hi,I tried your strategy and I went all the way up to $140 per night at the 3* and none of my offers were accepted. What would you recommend next? Is it possible that because I am looking for 4 rooms - that's the issue? Thanks for your help!
Colfax Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 I don't think four rooms is probably the issue. More likely $140 just isn't enough for a 3* on these nights.1) You said your limit was $150 but you only bid to $140; my first suggestion then is to try $150, unless you've reduced your limit.2) You might add Embarcadero zone. 3) $140 might be enough for a 2.5* in USE. In this Priceline San Francisco thread another bidder won the 2.5* Executive Vintage Court in USE for $129 for 9/24-9/28, which overlaps three of your five nights.4) Although all five nights of your stay are expensive the last two nights, 9/25-9/27, look better than 9/22-9/25. If you're willing to split your stay and switch hotels once you might win 9/25-9/27 for less than you've already bid. If you win something for the two cheaper nights you can apply the savings towards bidding higher on the three more expensive nights.Do any of these options appeal to you? Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
Nick- Canada Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 We did not end up booking through Priceline or Hotwire as we secured a rental of a house instead. We decided as a group that it was probably better that we had control of where we were going to be staying. Thanks for your feedback. It was greatly appreciated.Nick
