LT-- Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 I'm trying to get a 5* Strip North or South hotel for this weekend, of course using your PRICELINE link. Bid up to $125 without any success. This is my maximum at this moment.Prices seem to be some higher than normal. What should I do? Wait and try again bidding closer to these dates? Or isn't my maximum bid realistic for a 5* property and should I try for a 4* hotel? Thanks for helping me out!

LT-- Posted August 6, 2011 Author Report Posted August 6, 2011 Thanks for your support. I see you're bidding for another busy weekend in October. What's the best strategy: wait or try to get a 4* hotel (and what could be a winning bid for a 4* property this period?)?
Romelle Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Have you found the Calendar of Wins (just above here) yet? While there aren't any 4*s wins there right now, there well may be other bidding reporting appearing on it in the future.Have you checked the rates of the hotels right on their own web sites? Several of them are accessible via the Las Vegas Checker higher up on this page. There are links to others under the Support/Travel tab also just above here. And the missing ones can usually be found with something easy like www.hotelname.com or a Google/Yahoo search. It is a good idea to know the hotel web site rates, as that gives you an upper limit to your bidding. And finally, you might take a look at Hotwire rates (link top left of this page). Often the actual hotel can be detected from the offered amenities. And it is another good max for your Priceline bidding. You really do have quite a bit of time yet. Sometimes patience is the name of the game (along with good research).Romelle
LT-- Posted August 6, 2011 Author Report Posted August 6, 2011 Thanks for your help Romelle.Yes, I have checked the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. At this moment, only Trump has been reported twice for these dates. I'll keep an eye on it for future wins. The rates on HOTWIRE and the hotel websites are a bit discouraging. All the 4* properties on Hotwire (as well as on the hotel websites) are between $150-200 per night. Monte Carlo seems to be the cheapest one with a rate of $138 per night. But I haven't seen Monte Carlo come up very often as a Priceline win. So I think I will wait for some longer, hoping that the rates will come down a bit closer to this weekend.
Smitty2000 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Yeah -- That weekend is a quasi-holiday since the following Monday is Columbus Day (which a lot of govt employees get off). I tried for 5* North up to about $150 hoping for the Venetian or Palazzo with no luck and judging from Hotwire, I think you would have to go much higher. Decided to go for the trump (which is in the 5* North condo category on PRICELINE) and got it for $125 for the same weekend you are trying for.
LT-- Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 I just tried $125 too for the Strip North Condo zone, but again without luck.I decided to book a cancellable back-up at the Polo Towers ($111 per night) directly at the hotel website. So now I can wait more patiently and will try again bidding in a few weeks.

LT-- Posted October 4, 2011 Author Report Posted October 4, 2011 So today I tried again. Bid $90 for 4* Strip Vicinity South (5* would be over my budget). Got a counter offer of $113. Didn't accept it and bid up to $102. That bid got accepted by the Westin Casuarina.I didn't really want the Westin, but I took the risk and knew this could happen. Well, it's still a 4* hotel, so it can't be that bad as some reviews say. I hope..
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Sorry to hear that you wound up with the Westin, but hope the property will work out better-than-expected for this stay.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
