Priceline Hotel: SF Union Square 4* realistic price 8/16-8/18

I am planning to visit SF with my girlfriend from August 16 - August 18. We would like to stay in the Union Square Neighborhood (or Fisherman's Wharf area, but there are no 4* hotels there). What should be a reasonable price to start bidding at Priceline for a 4* hotel in these areas?

I saw someone 'won' the Inter-Continental Mark Hopkins for $115. Is that a price to aim at, or should I bid higher for these dates?

Any other suggestions are more than welcome :)

Reasonable is relative. How much do you have to spend?

Prices are high for these days, but not exorbitant. Lastminutetravel looks better than HW. You should probably be able to get something for $110 - $150 on PL, but you won't know until you try.

Check out rack rates and be sure to take advantage of rebids. There are lots in SF.

Oh yes, I forgot.. We already bid up to $119 on Priceline, but all our attempts failed so far. We haven't had any counteroffers either.

Our budget is about $125 per night, but a little higher than that is still OK. However, the price should not exceed $140 per night.

Based on Hotwire's rates for your dates (4* USW $186, 4* USE $223) I think you may need to be more in the $140-165 range for a Priceline 4* in USE or USW.

Your $140 limit may be enough for a 3.5* if not 4*.

Adding 4* Financial/Embarcadero to your bidding will improve your chances of acceptance, if that zone is acceptable.

Hotwire has a 3* in USE for $121 that looks like the Crescent Hotel. Although it's not a 4* the Crescent's in a good location, a block north of Union Square. Not a sketchy area. Icons are: Boutique, Smokefree, Highspeed. Regular rate is $179, so that's about 1/3 off. Not bad.
