dahammer Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 This was a really last minute win, no time for a Priceline bid, so I went with Hotwire, and accessed the site through savingsbarn.com. Selected the Newark zone and chose the North Bergen-Rockland Couny areas. I saw a 3.5* Hotel for $59.00 with the following amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Business Center. I got my confirmation at 5:58 PM....two minutes to spare!! :) The rate on Hilton's website was $169 so this was a pretty good deal. Stayed here about two years ago and the Hotwire rate was $71. This property has easy access to the Tappan-Zee bridge if you need to get into Westchester.

dahammer Posted June 3, 2005 Author Report Posted June 3, 2005 the Pearl River Hilton is a really nice property, every bit a 3.5* or 4*. The grounds are immaculate and the hotel features an indoor pool and a gym. The Hilton advertises itself as being 15 minutes from the George Washington Bridge, just go down the Pallisaides Parkway to the bridge. During rush hour, more time will be needed. If you are planning to drive into NYC, the Hilton could be an alternative to higher priced accomodations in NYC, Jersey City, or Secaucus. NJ Transit offers train service from Pearl River Station to Penn Station, the fare is $7.65 each way or $11.75 Roundtrip, and it requires a transfer at the Secaucus Junction to get into the city; transit time is about one hour. Or, you could stay on the train and end up in Hoboken and catch the PATH train into lower Manhattan.
