mell312 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Here's a quick recap of my failed bids (using the PRICELINE link)USE & USW (9/24-9/26)Started at $110Bid up to $125 including 4*,3.5* and 3*Bid up to $150 including 4* and 3.5*BId up to 165 including 4*Fisherman's Wharf (9/28-10/1)Started at $130 for 3.5*Bid up to 165Mostly bid in $5 increments. Got nothing to show for all the work. A little frustrated and not sure what my next step will be. Either suck it up and go up a little more or maybe just jump to Hotwire. Any suggestions? I know its a busy time, but though moving my max bid from $150 to $165 might score me at least something based on other bids I've seen posted. Should I wait a week and try again?
mell312 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 Bid up 4* USE and USW to $175 this morning. Can't bare to go any further. I know this is a busy time of the year, but its frustrating to see winning bids posted within 2 to 3 weeks of these dates at $50 to $70 less a night. What in the heck is going on?!
thereuare Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 This is an expensive time of year in the area (weather, conventions, conferences, etc). Rates are date specific and while you're seeing cheaper rates 2-3 weeks within your dates, it's not uncommon to see rates differ greatly from one day to the next. The Sunday nite of this trip is not the issue, but Saturday is much more expensive... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mell312 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 We will already be spending our vacation in 3 different hotels. First 2 nights are in SF, second 2 nights in Napa (booked through the PRICELINE link) and then back to SF for 3 nights. I prefer not to add a 4th hotel to the mix for a 7 day vacation. I already feel like we will be packing and unpacking a lot. I just bid up the dates we want to stay in Fisherman's Wharf up to $175 as well. Refusing to go past that mark. If we have to spend more than that I'd prefer just to hand pick my hotel. Might wait and try again in a couple of weeks since I have time and keep an eye out for something else in the meantime.
Gallus50 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 If you're really antsy to get this booked and PRICELINE isn't working, go in a different direction. HOTWIRE has a 4* in USE for $174 with 100% approval and 4.5 on Trip Advisor. Possibly Omni or Meridian? LMT has several 3* and 4.5* options that are under that. The 3* Hotel Griffon is highly rated and only $112. The 3* Holiday Inn Golden Gateway is $116; it's on Van Ness near California. 4.5* Hyatt Regency Embarcadero is $149. Most of these are On Request so you'd have to inquire. It's early enough that they may be available. The Diva is also available, but rooms there are pretty small and the cost is not as reasonable. ($168) These are all decent choices. I'd go with the Hotel Griffon, if I could get it.
thereuare Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 HOTWIRE also has a 4* hotel in the Embarcadero zone for $176 with a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating and 100% recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests... but not sure if the zone boundaries of HOTWIRE's Embarcadero zone are of interest.Let us know your thoughts on the options above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Gallus50 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Need to correct myself. The 4* I mentioned was also in EMB/FD. not USE. Probably the same one that thereurare mentioned.
mell312 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 The Embarcadero option is tempting, but relatives have said that area is dead at night and not the safest after dark. I'm not familiar with the area. Any ideas what hotel that might be...wouldn't mind it if its on the edge.I'm not necessarily ansty to get things booked, but the husband wants it to be a done deal. I don't mind waiting a little.
mell312 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 After looking at the Embarcadero option on Hotwire, I realized your guesses of Omni and LeMeridian were based on being in EMB not USE like you accidently said earlier. We went ahead and went with it after seeing they are both on the edge of Union Square and the Omni is just .5 miles from US and Le Meridian is just .8 from US. Was crossing fingers for the Omni after looking at both and that is what it ended up being. I'll go and post it over in the Hotwire side of the forum.Still need to find a room for the last three nights of our trip (9/28-10/1) and we really want to stay in Fisherman's Wharf those nights so we can do all the touristy stuff. Thanks for the EMB tip. I think we will love the Omni.
mell312 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Thanks for the tips in the Priceline forum. Very happy with this purchase. Seems to be close to USE where I was originally looking although not technically in US. More than I was originally hoping to get something for, but our travel dates seem to be priced highly in general. Just need a place in FW for the last half of our trip. Think I'll sit on that one and keep an eye out for something. And used your HOTWIRE links of course! :)
AaronJB Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Congrats on your success.Very nice deal and let us know what you decide/if you have questions regarding the other portion of your stay. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's HOTWIRE link.Enjoy your stay.

mell312 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Moderators, please move thread to Hotwire board. :)So confused...I started in Priceline forum with all my failed bids, but once I went with Hotwire I posted my winning bid over there. Looks like someone has combined my two posts into one post here on the Priceline board, but yes, my final win was on Hotwire.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 All fixed :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
