MrWilder Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Hi all,I just want a one star hotel in Mission Bay or on Hotel Circle. Kings Inn, Extended Stay, or Best Western Mission Bay type places are just fine. My current bid is already $55 for 14, 10, 6, 1. (The other two are Coronado and National City (Yikes!))I actually see TWO STAR hotels on Priceline for $55 in the national city area, yet I don't win when I name my own price?SOOOoooo, A) What is a realistic price in one of these areas for the dates 7/18 - 7/21 and B) WHY aren't my "name your own" bids winning when hotels are apparently available? Thanks everyone,Tony
Colfax Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please use zone names instead of numbers because the zone maps frequently change. "Zone 6" could be Coronado today and Chula Vista tomorrow. The four zones you named (Coronado, Hotel Circle, National City, Coastal) are all over the map. What is it you're looking for in this hotel stay? When you bid $55 was that for 2* or 1* or both? Hotwire often rates hotels higher than Priceline so that Hotwire 2* for $55 could be a 1* on Priceline. Also some hotels participate in one service but not the other. Also your last night 7/20 is Preview Night for Comic-Con. You can probably find better rates if you can eliminate that night. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your puchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 I actually see TWO STAR hotels on Priceline for $55 in the national city area, yet I don't win when I name my own price? Why would you bid $55 for a 1* in a zone which has 'retail' rates of $55?? (or am i interpreting your post incorrectly) Also, not all hotels which participate in the 'Shop and Compare' side of PRICELINE participate with the bidding 'Name Your Own Price' side (and vice versa), so it's possible that the 2* you're seeing is not offered on the opaque side. (there are many other possibilities, but this is the easiest example which could account for your experience above)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. MrWilder Posted July 13, 2011 Author Report Posted July 13, 2011 I wasn't aware of the retail prices until after the fact. I had started bidding at $25 and gone up $1 for all my areas and made it all the way to $55 before it became a concern- then i noticed. Anyway, got the 2* Comfort Suites Mission Valley Sea World. Guess that counts as Hotel Circle for $65 per night. Thanks all,Tony
