no8385 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 I have been trying to bid a hotel in LGA from 5/26~29, in fact the 2.5* ramada inn is what I am really trying to bid. I have successfully bid this hotel last summer with around 70 per night, but just can't get anything this time. Can anyone suggest me the price or am I too late already....THANKS!!!
thereuare Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you're willing to SPLIT YOUR PRICELINE BID, i would try bidding for just the first two nites, 5/26-5/28.However, i would seriously question why anyone would want to spend 3 nites in this area.Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes. dahammer Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Could it be that the Red Sox will be in town for three days to play the Yankees in the "House that Ruth Built"? :) Both the Econo Lodge and HoJo Express in the Bronx are sold out! :o Hotwire has no rooms for all three days, it looks like Saturday night will be tough....If you are going to Yankee Stadium and want to drive, staying in Ft. Lee, NJ might be an alternative, although not as desireable as Flushing Meadows :)
no8385 Posted May 23, 2005 Author Report Posted May 23, 2005 thanks for your replys first, I am not particularly interested in that area, just I need a place with free parking and close to subway station (not quite a preasure driving around NYC for a guy from PA). And ramada LGA is the only place I know with these two things. But if anyone can suggest any alternatives (even in NJ), that will be great!!!Thanks~~
dahammer Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 NJ hotels with access to subways (via the PATH train) are in Jersey City, but rates for your entire stay are pretty high. Using Hotwire, it looks like you can get the 2.5* JC Candlewood Suites for $100 for 5/26-5/28. This hotel offers free parking and is close to the PATH station. Also, it looks like the JC Hyatt is $107, but parking is $15 per day. Saturday night looks pretty tight, but a 2* is available for $107; could this be the JC Ramada Ltd?? Not sure if this has been identified yet, so parking is anyone's guess. You may be able to do better on Priceline, but splitting your bid is your best bet to get the lowest rates, although you will be changing hotels on Saturday. My vote is to go with the Hyatt, forget the crosstown traffic you would encounter on your way to LGA, you will save time and hassle both ways. Besides, you will see all the ships for fleet week right from your hotel and the Path station is just steps away. I like to use savingsbarn.com to access priceline or hotwire as it supports forums like these.
thereuare Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 no8385,You said you really don't need to be in the area, but you didn't say if splitting your bid is an option or not. If it is i'll give my own suggestions in addition to those of dahammer's above. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
no8385 Posted May 24, 2005 Author Report Posted May 24, 2005 Yes, I have no problem to split my bid if you can share your experience, thanksbtw, thank you for your information, dahammer.
thereuare Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 I would split my stay as follows:5/26-5/28The Jersey City Hyatt appears to be available for $110/nite. I would first try a priceline bid in this zone at $75, if rejected i would then take the HOTWIRE offer (use GIFTCARD06 for $10 off per nite if you've never purchased thru them before). Note that parking is additional, but this is a much better option than the LGA area (imo).5/28-5/29I would forgo the Jersey City area completely as i don't think anything near the PATH station is available, which defeats the purpose of this area. I would sooner look towards the Meadowlands/Secaucus area. A 3.5* is avaliable on HOTWIRE for $91, but again, you can always try to do a little better on Priceline... if you decide to go this route we'll supply a strategy to try.If the above Jersey City option for the first two days is beyond your budget once parking is included, you could probably be successful for the Meadowlands/Secaucus area for yoru complete stay, but this area is somewhat less convenient than the Jersey City area.Coming from Pennsylvania, i think staying on the NJ side is even a better option as it doesn't require you to cut thru the city.Let us know what you decide to do and if you can be of further help. If you do split the stay and move forward on both please keep this thread active for the first part of your stay and start a NEW TOPIC for the results of the second part of your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE link for any purchases you make (if you do split, please return here and use this link for the start of each purchase, thanks).
