Priceline Hotel: Marina & Bidding Proximity To First Night

First of all, thanks for such a great site!

I've been using the rebidding method in the last 2 days without success. I'm looking for a one-night stay for 6/8 either in SOMA, Financial District, USE, or USW. I started with 4* and went up to $107 the first try using as many rebids as possible. My 2nd try, I downgraded to 3.5* all the way up to $95.

My questions:

Do people ever snag a better deal closer to their booking date than those who don't?

Any idea what hotels are in the Marina-Lombard Street area?

Thanks! Any tips welcomed!

Welcome to the board, wrr!

I don't know what's going on but this is an expensive date.

The least expensive 4* on Expedia are Mark Hopkins (USW) $249 and Hilton (USW) $259. Many 4* are over $300 and some are over $400.

Hotwire only has one 4* in all of Downtown--a 4* USW for $237.

For a 4* or 3.5* I think you probably need to be bidding more in the $120-140 range. If you want to keep it closer to $100 that could mean 3*, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Yes. Earlier today CardQB posted in this priceline win that bidding two days before stay he/she won the Hyatt Regency for $80 after being rejected to $140 in same zone the day before. It's great when that happens but it doesn't happen all the time. You can't count on it.

They're mostly 1*/2* motels--Travelodge, Super 8, etc, mixed in with independent mom and pop motels. It's one of SF's "budget motel" areas. Many stay there because they have free parking, and some of them give free basic breakfast. Some are okay; some are shady.

Priceline only offers 2* bidding in Marina-Lombard zone, which is quite a quality comedown from the 4* in Union Square you were just bidding for.

Please use this PRICELINE link to start your bidding and let us know how it goes, or ask if you have other questions.

One hotel that's sort of close to Lombard/Marina is Holiday Inn Golden Gateway. It's pretty nice, has a pool and good views. If you can ID it and get it on HW or LMT, it is fine when the price is good.

It's The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference from June 6-10. The event is sold out. So much for low bidding. Thanks!
