HoosierYankee Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 I've reviewed the postings regarding this areas hotels and it looked like I could secure a 3* hotel in the $45-60 range. I started my bidding for 2 rooms at $50 for a 3* hotel for one night, June 8, but was unsuccessful, then submitted a bid of $55 and then $60 and both of those were also unsuccessful. Are these bids being unsuccessful because of the 2 rooms or should I continue increasing my bid? Any other suggestions? Were planning on spending the day at Winterthur so I'd like to be close to the property. Thanks.
dahammer Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 its possible that mid week stays in the Wilmington-Brandywine zone may be higher because of business travelers, the lowest 3* on HOTWIRE is $97. Also, what are the dates of these $50 wins? Rates are date specific. I would continue to bid each day up to your maximum budget.
HoosierYankee Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 There was a $42 win rate for 7/29-30 on PRICELINE.
thereuare Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 There was a $42 win rate for 7/29-30 on PRICELINE.Not only is this a weekend nite (see dahammer's comments above regarding midweek vs. weekend nites in this area) but the property that user won was the Courtyard... search that same property for your dates and you'll see they're sold-out. Not only does this make your winning this hotel (at all) much less likely, but it's also likely indicative of high demand for the area, which typically means it would also require a higher then usual bid to be successful. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable property thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. HoosierYankee Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 The Days Inn Wilmington Newark is offering a special non-refundable rate of $59 and the next best rate is a Quality Inn at $82 both for a standard double. These came off Hotels.com.
thereuare Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 If the Days Inn works for your needs i would take that as i don't think you're going to come close to that rate at a 3* property. If you don't go with PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, please use this Hotels.com link (or in our support page) to begin your purchase.Let us know what you ultimately decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. dahammer Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 you might consider the Chadds Ford, PA area , its a short drive to Winterthur. If you are in this area, you might want to think about visiting Longwood Gardens as well.
