karen55mm Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 I'm looking for a San Diego Hotel for 6/8-6/10or11.I started on Priceline ,through this site, looking for 4* at $86 for san diego coast2nd bid was $98 for san diego coast and coronado. The most important thing I'm looking for is a nice pool and not too far from the beach because I will have my kids with me.Any suggestions??Thanks
thereuare Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Few questions regarding this trip:I'm looking for a San Diego Hotel for 6/8-6/10or11.For which check-out date are you currently bidding? The most important thing I'm looking for is a nice pool and not too far from the beach...With PRICELINE you can receive any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select... how do you intend to ensure a pool and/or beach access? When you need certain amenities HOTWIRE may be a better, although slightly more expensive, option as you can know the amenities offered by the hotel (in this instance look Beachfront, Beach Access and/or Pool icons) before your purchase....because I will have my kids with me.Note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc) How many adults/children will there be in total?Let us know the info above, how you'd like to proceed, and your maximum budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this trip and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. I guess I can't but I was assuming that all the hotels at least have a pool. How many adults/children will there be in total?2 Adults 2 kidsLet us know the info above, how you'd like to proceed, and your maximum budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this trip and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. My max budget per night would be $125 if I can get everything I want. Please let me know your opinion if I should just go through Hotwire or Priceline. Thanks
thereuare Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 My max budget per night would be $125 if I can get everything I want. Please let me know your opinion if I should just go through Hotwire or Priceline. It depends upon how much a pool and a beach are a need vs. a want (since you can't guarantee either when using PRICELINE) as well as how much risk you're willing to accept in regards to the double/quad occupancy. For quad occupancy HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the Hilton Mission Bay for $136/nite... Beachfront and has a pool. Would this be worthwhile for you extend your budget an an extra $10/nite?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 I see Hotwire has split their Sea World-Mission Bay-Shelter Island zone. The two new zones are "Sea World-Mission Bay-Shelter Island" (same as before) and "Shelter Island-Point Loma". The first zone is misnamed and should be called simply "Sea World-Mission Bay" because all of Shelter Island is within the new "Shelter Island-Point Loma" zone.I'll try to sort the hotels into their zones in the next few days.karen55mm,The 3* in Shelter Island-Point Loma looks like a match for Holiday Inn Bayside. The other 3* hasn't been reported before. My best guess is it's the Wyndham Garden Sea World. That's the new name of the former Mission Plaza Inn, which didn't have good reviews. I don't know how much renovation's been done since Wyndham took over.Neither hotel is oceanfront, but you can look at reviews and see if either will work for you. The Wyndham is in a busy urban area and I'd probably rule that one out.
karen55mm Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 I have decided that I will give up beachfront for a lesser room rate.Thanks.

Colfax Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 karen55mm,Are you mostly looking to spend time at the beach with your kids or are you also planning to visit attractions like SeaWorld and the San Diego zoo? There are some cute towns in north San Diego county like Encinitas, Solana Beach, and Carlsbad that usually have less expensive hotels with good beach access. If you're planning to visit SeaWorld or the Zoo then those North County towns aren't as convenient as staying Downtown/Coastal/Mission Valley because it's a 30 mile drive or so to SeaWorld. But if you're not going to SeaWorld etc and mainly looking for time at the beach with your kids some of those smaller towns can work out fine. They've got a charm of their own, different than central San Diego, less crowded, more relaxed atmosphere. What's more important to you---walking distance to the ocean or proximity to SeaWorld and Downtown? I'll see if I can find some options. What's your budget per night?
karen55mm Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 Colfax,I was looking to spend time on the beach and hit some tourist attractions but no SeaWorld or the Zoo. I was thinking about renting some bikes, visiting Horton Plaza, take a visit to Coronado maybe, stuff like that. But I am open to the North County. Thanks
Colfax Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Hotwire's Travel-Ticker, which you can access from the bottom of Hotwire's homepage has a special at the Dana on Mission Bay, 2 queens for $119. It's close to the bay with two pools, next to a bike path, onsite bike rentals, and just a few minutes from Mission Beach. It's a little over your $125 limit but for $138 HOTWIRE also has a 4* in Sea World-Mission Bay-Shelter Island that looks like the Hilton Mission Bay, with 2 bed guarantee.Beachfront, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, Highspeed, Laundry, Golf, TennisWould either of these work for you?
karen55mm Posted May 18, 2011 Author Report Posted May 18, 2011 I went ahead and used the Travelticker and booked The Dana in Mission Bay for my stay $119/night. Thanks for your help!!
