thereuare Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 There is a 5K person conference during your stay as well as an 8K person conference starting on 5/14... these two combined i imagine are causing the big spike in rates you're seeing. If you need to stay in this areas it's going to be pricey, if this is a pleasure trip, any other place nearby you may be interested in seeing?? :)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Welcome to the board, Booker.Your problem here, and it's a big problem, is that Bay to Breakers race is Sunday, May 15. It's a huge event. Most downtown hotels are sold out and those that aren't are very expensive.Hotwire has NOTHING in the core downtown zones---USW, USE, and Embarcadero---and NOTHING in Fisherman's Wharf. At the edge of downtown, in Civic Center South-Hayes Valley zone, Hotwire has the 2* Civic Center Inn for $200.67 or an unidentified 1* for $137. Those are both lower grade motel properties charging exorbitant rates because of Bay to Breakers. If you want to stay downtown that weekend I'm afraid you'll have to pay a lot to get something not 4* or 3*.I know it's not what you probably want but do you have any interest in staying at a 4* near the airport and taking BART to downtown every day? You might get a 4* at the airport for $80 or less.I think you might win a 4*/3* Downtown on your first night, 5/13, for less than you've already bid. It's the other two nights that are the problem.
Booker27 Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 Hi Guys, thanks for your Response - i like that Board here :)!Well- first of all i know what events are and that's good - bad is the price for the hotels, but i will find something. maybe i will use the rental car for 3 days more and pick a hotel outside of downtown and drive to the city. i know, the parking will cost a lot, but better then pay $600 and more for a 1-2* motel. Thanks you a lot! I will use PRICELINE for Las Vegas, San Diego and other cities and post my results here :)Best,Booker
Colfax Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 You can use PRICELINE at some of the alternative places to stay outside of downtown SF---Berkeley/Emeryville, Napa, Monterey, Santa Rosa. Let us know if you have further questions.
Colfax Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I wondered if availability would loosen up in the final days before Bay To Breakers and it has...but just a little.Eight days ago HOTWIRE had NOTHING in the four most popular zones: USE, USW, Embarcadero, and Fisherman's Wharf. Now HOTWIRE has two hotels---a 4* Embarcadero for $315 and a 4* Fisherman's Wharf for $296.The Civic Center 1* for $137 is gone. :)
