logic11 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Please, I need help.Date: May 10 to 13I'm looking for a 3* or higher in Union Square (I guess Union Square East is better than Union Square West/Nob Hill, am I right ?).How much should I start ?(I have a backup at Hendlery Union Square for $109, but I think it is too high for this hotel, am I right ?)I wouldn't like to spend more than $110 (I would spend $110 in a 3.5* or higher)thanks in advance

logic11 Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 Thank you.I have already answered the Hotwire Nice thread.I'm looking forward to your help.thanks in advance
thereuare Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Many bid both USE and USW, but some stick to only USE since they want to avoid the tenderloin area which is included in PRICELINE's USW zone.I don't think you're budget is enough for a 3.5*, but did you want to try for that first and then if rejected lower to 3*, or just go for the least expensive 3* or better up to your $110 limit?Let us know regarding the star rating and zone(s) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. logic11 Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 I don't know the hotels in San Francisco.Priceline Union Square 3* hotels don't look very nice.I just wouldn't like to get Hendlery Union Square or worse for around $100What do you suggest ?thanks in advance
logic11 Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 I've just bidded:3.5* Union Square East$ 90 - rejectedadded Union Square West$ 98 - rejectedPlease help me.
thereuare Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Are you using your FIVE re-bid zones available at the 3.5* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 The Handlery gets very good reviews generally (#44 of 242 hotels in SF), so you might want to keep it at $109.I think you can win a 3* in USE or USW for less than Handlery, maybe $75-100. People have different opinions about the 3* near Union Square. Personally I've been content with every 3* I've won near Union Square (I wouldn't say the same for the 2.5*.) But I don't know what you're used to. Many hotels near Union Square are 100 years old or more. That's true at every quality level from 1* to 4*. When you say the 3* hotels don't look "nice" are you trying to stay away from older hotels? What kind of hotel are you looking for?If you want to try for a 3* in USE or USW or both let us know and someone will give strategy.
logic11 Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 Thank you.I don't mind staying in old hotels as long as it is safe and clean. No, I haven't used FIVE re-bid zones available at the 3.5* level because I don't know which the re-bid zones are.I also don't know the re-bid zones for 3*.Hope you can help me with the prices and zones.
Colfax Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 With the Handlery you have a nice 3.5* hotel reserved for $109.If you want to try and beat that rate for a 3.5* I suggest the following:At 3.5* level you have FOUR rebid zones. Those are zones that only have less than 3.5* hotels. (Civic Center South, Civic Center North, Marina-Lombard, South SF).I suggest select USE and USW and bid $70 for a 3.5*. Then add the rebid zones one at a time raising your bid $5 with each, up to $90. If you only want USE, then just bid there and not USW.Please use this PRICELINE link. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
logic11 Posted May 8, 2011 Author Report Posted May 8, 2011 Yesterday I tried SF as follows:4* Union S East = $ 95 rejected4* Union S W & NH = $105 rejectedI'll try it for the last time todayPlease give me strategies for today's bid in SF(And I can't try Handlery for a lower rate, right ? Since it is a 3* (in your SF hotel list) and there are many others as well, or am I wrong?)best regards

Colfax Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 The Handlery you have reserved for $109 is a Priceline 3* in USW. Earlier I said it was 3.5*. My apologies. You've been rejected to $98 for 3.5* in USE and USW, and bidding higher than $98 or $99 will make your new reservation more expensive than your Handlery, due to Priceline's transaction feee. What's your objective now? If you want a 4* or 3.5* you'll need to bid higher than you have.Or do you want to try and win a 3* at a better rate than the $109 you have reserved now? If you win a 3* it might or might not be the Handlery. For a 3* in USW or USE I suggest the following:Click this PRICELINE link and bid $70 for 3* in USW.If rejected add Marina-Lombard (free rebid) and bid $75.If rejected close browser, reaccess PRICELINE and bid $70 for 3* in USE.If rejected add Marina-Lombard and bid $75.If rejected close browser, reaccess PRICELINE, select USE AND USW and bid $80If rejected add Marina-Lombard and bid $85 or $90.If you decide to bid for 3* (rather than keep Handlery) good luck and let us know how it goes.
logic11 Posted May 8, 2011 Author Report Posted May 8, 2011 Thanks ColfaxI'll just keep my reservation since the hotel is well located. Thanks for everything !!I'll be back here for my next trip.
