Flyerfan Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 I am looking for a one night stay pre cruise and post cruise in the LAX area. The second night is Sunday 10/2/11. This is what I found:4* LAX 69.00 Shuttle, fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, laundry, internet 85% recommendation2* Hawthorne 62.00 Shuttle, complementary breakfast, pool, business center, laundry, internet, launderette 100% recommendation2.5* Elsegundo-Manhattan Beach 43.00 Shuttle, fitness, pool, business center, laundry, internet 60% recommendationI am figuring that the 4* is the Sheraton Gateway and I am wondering if the shuttles mentioned by the other two properties would be free shuttles to LAX.Also, in general, what is the best time frame to make a purchase....is it better to get something right away or do the prices drop closer to the date and then the properties try to sell additional rooms via hotwire and priceline to generate additional revenue. Thanks for your help
yellowdog Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Can you please clarify for what date the listed hotels are for. Also, in general, what is the best time frame to make a purchaseSorry to say that we have no general answer for this question. Flyerfan Posted April 26, 2011 Author Report Posted April 26, 2011 As listed in my original post, the date is Sunday 10/2/11. I have figured out that the Hawthorne hotel is the Comfort Inn Cockatoo, mainly because of the recommendation percentage and the fact that it has kitchenette rooms.
Colfax Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 I am wondering if the shuttles mentioned by the other two properties would be free shuttles to LAX.When Hotwire shows a Shuttle icon it means the hotel has an airport shuttle but not necessarily a free one. That said I think all the hotels in LAX zone have free shuttles, unless you bid 2*.Are you cruising out of San Pedro? I've noticed lots of posters get a 4* in Long Beach pre and post cruise, rather than stay at LAX.
Flyerfan Posted April 27, 2011 Author Report Posted April 27, 2011 Yes, we're going out of San Pedro...one option was to take the supershuttle from LAX and stay at either the Crown Plaza or the Doubletree in San Pedro and then take their free shuttle to the pier, which I am sure will be crowded. The other option is to stay at a hotel near LAX that has a free shuttle and then take the supershuttle the following morning to San Pedro for our cruise. Staying in Long Beach would defeat the purpose because of the additional cab fare involved. If we were going out of Long Beach, we would look into hotels there because there are many more options, but since there are only two hotels worthwhile in San Pedro, I am sure the free shuttle would be jammed.
Colfax Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 It sounds like you're well aware of the Long Beach option and the pros and cons of staying at LAX vs Long Beach. The 4* LAX matches previous reports for the Westin, with the caveat that the Hotwire hotel has a 3.5 TripAdvisor rating and Westin is a 4 on TA. When TA ratings change there's a time lag before the new rating transmits to Hotwire. So even with the discrepancy this still could be Westin. The Hilton and Radisson have been reported with those icons too, but at the 3.5* level, not 4*. It's possible Hilton or Radisson was upgraded to 4* but I think the Westin is more likely. If it's any of those three they all have a free airport shuttle. If you purchase please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what you get.
Colfax Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I'm going to revise my ID. My best guess now is Hilton LAX, not Westin.Yestereday someone bought a 4* that turned out to be Hilton, newly upgraded from 3.5*, and this listing looks like the same hotel. Plus Hilton's a 3.5 on TripAdvisor and that matches this Hotwire listing. Westin's a 4.
