Plookhead Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Basically I'm looking for a good place to stay anywhere convenient.Used the free rebid zones and went up as high as $118 for 3.5* and up.Retried bidding while lowering to 3* and went as high as $101 and still no luck.I also tried to split my stay and no luck. Anyone got something interesting?Hotwire has a 3.5* for 134$ but that's more than I'd like to pay. I also would like to avoid the Powell Hotel based on the reviews so I wont risk a 3* in Union Square on Hotwire.
Colfax Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!1) Is one bed enough? Priceline only guarantees one bed. If you need two beds Hotwire might be the better choice.2) In which zones did you bid to $118 for 3.5*? In which zones did you bid to $101 for 3*? (Priceline doesn't have a "Union Square" zone. Did you bid in USE and USW both?)3) The Powell Hotel is rated 2.5* on Priceline, so you won't win it bidding 3* in USE or USW. Priceline never downgrades a bid. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.

Plookhead Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 I got tired after 4 days of fishing for a potential deal on priceline and hotwire and Travelocity top secret hotels. It felt like this period is too busy so no real deals are in sight.Ended up booking a 2* hotel directly through a Travel Agency. I booked The Baldwin Hotel at 111$ per night. Its got good reviews and good location. This was their last room at that price for my dates. (its now 10$ more per night from what I can see). Thanks for reading.
slruud Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 You could have gotten the 3* Whitcomb for $107/nite on Lastminutetravel.com.
Colfax Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Baldwin's a really good location in USE, almost next to the Chinatown Gate. I stayed there once and for clean basic accomodation I liked it, even though Priceline rates the Baldwin 2*. It doesn't have much of a lobby, and no bar or restaurant, but there are so many places nearby you don't really need those on premises. Have fun!
Gallus50 Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Hey Plookhead - I'm glad you're happy with your reservation, but I'm pretty sure you're leaving money on the table. If you have a little more patience and persistence, you can probably get a higher rated hotel for less, whether it's with HW, LMT or PL. If your reservation is cancellable, you might want to keep looking. But if the $$$ is not as important as your peace of mind, you made the right decision.
