wong2kl Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Hello All,This is my first time bidding for a hotel in SF. I was thinking of getting a 4* in USW USE SOMA. Based on these dates how much do you think it would take to get a 4*? And just fyi I am familiar with the rebidding process. Thank you in advance for your help
AaronJB Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Good evening. :)Please provide a follow-up for your prior Priceline New York City thread (post what you decided for that stay, then reply to this thread.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
wong2kl Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 Hello,A reply has been posted for the NYC trip.
thereuare Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Rates are currently high for these dates... what is the best rate you've found at an acceptable hotel for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wong2kl Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 I honestly haven't checked actual hotel websites since their rates tend to be much higher than the price I end up winning the bid for. Is there a approximation on what you think I could get a 4* hotel in the formentioned areas for? Is there a reason these particular dates are experiencing high rates?
thereuare Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I honestly haven't checked actual hotel websites since their rates tend to be much higher than the price I end up winning the bid for.Understood... but since rates are date specific, and rates for these dates are higher then usual, you can't count on 'typical' winning bids for these atypical dates. If you don't know hotel direct rates, then you also don't know what should be considered a good deal for these particular nites. Is there a reason these particular dates are experiencing high rates? There is a 14K person conference being held during these dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wong2kl Posted April 19, 2011 Author Report Posted April 19, 2011 Hmm based on Expedia it looks like the cheapest 4 star hotel in the union square area is the Hilton at 279 per night.
thereuare Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 So with 4* hotels starting at $279 (and many going over $300 per nite) how high are you willing to bid and still consider it to be a deal? Obviously the 'usual' sub-$100 and low $100 wins aren't going to be a realistic expectation for this stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wong2kl Posted April 20, 2011 Author Report Posted April 20, 2011 That is a shame. <Sigh> I think I will have to use other travel sites to book because I believe I will have to book 3.5 or less because I will want to know what hotel I am booking. There are some 3* I would definitely want to stay away from. Thank you for your help.
Colfax Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 These are expensive dates but a 4* on Priceline, even at inflated rates, might be less than a 3.5* or 3* at retail. Do you find any acceptable 3.5*/3* hotels for $150 or less? If not what about bidding to $150 for 4* on Priceline?
thereuare Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 What is the best rate you're able to find at a 3* hotel for these dates thru conventional booking channels? If not using PRICELINE / HOTWIRE, please check for and use the links in our support page whenever possible.Thanks. slruud Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Just for reference, Lastminutetravel.com has the Whitcomb for $168/nite, and the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway for $104/nite.
wong2kl Posted April 20, 2011 Author Report Posted April 20, 2011 @ thereuareWe ended up booking:5/3 - 5/5 - 3* Hotel Tomo in Japan Town for for two nights for $189/night direct from hotel5/5 - 5/6 - 3* Best Western Tuscan Inn - Fisherman's Wharf for one night @ $169/night from priceline (actually saw it for 147 earlier that day on Expedia and didn't grab it! <kicks self in head>)5/6 - 5/7 - 4* Westin SFO airport for $70/night bidding on priceline (direct from hotel would have been $99)All in all much more expensive than I thought it would be (darn conference!) but will make the most of it! Thanks for everyone's help@slruud Thanks for the heads up
wong2kl Posted April 20, 2011 Author Report Posted April 20, 2011 Quick update. Ended up finding rooms at the 3* hotel Warwick - near Union Square for $119 on travel zoo. Decided to splurge a little and got the petite suite for $149/night for 5/3-5/5. Actually kind of sad we will not be staying at Hotel Tomo anymore because it looked pretty interesting but even with the little splurge we will be saving $96 dollars for the two nights with room rates and taxes considred.
