98t Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Seems that I am not very lucky these days. We try to find for SF (23rd July, 3 nights) 2 rooms at Fisherman's Wharf (only 3*/3,5*) and Union Square (only 4*+). I saw that many were lucky with their bids last year for the summer and got rates around $ 60-$75 / room / night. Free rebidzone: Marina-Lombard (max. 2*)Bid history for Fisherman's Wharf (both 3* as 3,5*):$ 55,- rejected$ 57,- rejected$ 59,- rejected$ 65,- rejected$ 70,- rejected$ 72,- rejected$ 75,- rejectedDo you expect that cheaper rooms will be added? Or is it true that they increased the prices... I'm trying now already for 2 weeks, no luck. Our max. is around $ 75/room/night.
AaronJB Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Rates on HOTWIRE for Fisherman's Wharf these days definitely look high - $75 is unlikely for that zone. Some other zones look better for these days - Union Square E/W - but $75 may still be tough. There's no way to know whether or not rates will improve closer to your dates. 98t Posted April 15, 2011 Author Report Posted April 15, 2011 Do you have any experience with other zones that are safe (at night!) and close to the cable car and public transport? We might be thinking about Japantown...

Colfax Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I saw that many were lucky with their bids last year for the summer and got rates around $ 60-$75 / room / night.Priceline rates are higher than they were a year ago all over SF. What someone paid last July probably isn't an accurate predictor of this July. Most 4* wins downtown these days are $90 or more, not $60-75. FW costs more than a year ago too.So I think you're bidding too low for 4*/3.5* downtown, but $75 might be enough for a 3* in USE or USW.
Colfax Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 Do you have 'any experience with other zones that are safe (at night!) and close to the cable car and public transport? We might be thinking about Japantown...Japantown's not a bad place but it isn't close to BART and the California St cable car that connects Japantown area with downtown is closed for repairs til summer. FW or Downtown would be closer to more transport options for now. What's your general inclincation...to bid higher than $75 for your preferred zones/quality levels? Or look for the best $75 room you can get, which might be a 3* in USE or USW.
98t Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 Thanks guys!! Union Square 4* (both east/west) denied $ 75 denied $ 80 denied $ 85. (incl. bonus cash). We will skip Japantown then.. prefer to have a good location, a bit more isn't a problem. But as we bid for 2 rooms, don't want to spend more than 80 actually.
98t Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 $ 90 again. Both USW USE (incl. Marina rebid and Fisherman's Wharf). 2 rooms. 3 nights. 4*. DENIED :-(
thereuare Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 But as we bid for 2 rooms, don't want to spend more than 80 actually.Based upon current prices i think you'll need to be closer to $100-$110 then $80.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Is 3.5* in USE and USW acceptable?Did you bid up to $90 in FW too, or just USE and USW?
98t Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 FW bid our max of $ 80,-. USE & USW: IMO is $ 110,- too much at this moment. I think I'll wait here also for a month or 2 and try again. It might that they add cheaper rooms, just before we arrive. Booked a back-up hotel.I see indeed that the bids are much, much higher than the last years...
