xnick2000 Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 I started bidding at $105 and worked my way up to $145 through re-bids including zones without a 4*. No luck. This seems to be getting a little high based on my usual savings % and strategies. Anyone have any insights or ideas? I think it's possible my length of stay is part of the problem. (I'm not necessarily against splitting up the lodging part and staying in different hotels/zones, though not exactly sure what to do with a week's worth of luggage between check-out/check-in times.)I can step it up tonight and try into the 150-160 range if necessary. While that's still significant savings, it seems high based on other deals I see people getting (which are generally shorter stays, so maybe not the best comparison).Still plenty of time I suppose, though there's that slightly weird feeling when you have a plane ticket somewhere and don't have a hotel yet.
AaronJB Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Rates can vary significantly from day-to-day, especially in larger cities; others may be getting better deals less far into the Spring season or on generally calmer days (may be a convention during this time.) Rates definitely seem on the higher side (although not extraordinarily so), and this period does seem busy - HOTWIRE is showing no discounted rates for 4*'s in the core San Fran areas, only regular rate listings. Are you only interested in USE?I do see the Hilton Union Square (which is in USW) for non-refundable $154.35 per night on Expedia, then coupon code 10MAR takes 10% off per night - $138.60 per night.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Expedia (if you go with the Hilton) links to start your purchases and searches.

Colfax Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 There are just three known 4* hotels in USE zone and one of them--the Taj Compton--only comes up rarely. So really only two possible hotels. If you add USW to your bidding you're allowing nine more 4* hotels to consider your bid and you'll greatly improve your chance of acceptance. (Adding SOMA or Embarcadero would help too, but no zone has as many 4* as USW.)
