toddmcin Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 When you bid on resorts, are they a higher level than a 4-star hotel? It is at the bottom of the list.....so I just wanted to confirm before I start bidding. So if I bid for 3* and above, I would be bidding on all 3*, 3.5*, 4* and resorts?I am looking for the dates 5/21 to 5/29. Is it too early to be bidding on Priceline? If you wait, does the price drop? Thanks for any help.
AlanP Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Yes. Resorts are better than 4*. Consider them 5* if you like.
thereuare Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 In the star rating hierarchy, "Resort" class properties should be treated like 4.5* rated properties... higher then 4*... but lower then 5*.As far as when to bid, see the related "Bid Early or Close to Check-in" thread in our PRICELINE FAQ.Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? What is you maximum bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. toddmcin Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 I started my trial tonight. I am pretty flexible. I am traveling 5/21 to 5/29. I plan on going to Hana for 1 night, so I broke my stays into a 3 night and a 4 night stay 5/21 to 5/24 and 5/25 to 5/29. I also don't care if I get different motels on the 3 night and the 4 night stay as I will be traveling anyway. I'm looking for a 3.5* and above, but trying to avoid the Royal Lahaina (some people on this board have made some negative comments, and the room rates are really cheap, so it didn't seem like a big deal if I got it). I also want to stay in the Kaanapali/Lahaina area or the Makena/Wailea area. Here is what I did tonight unsuccessfully. I got a little time though.5/21 to 5/24Kaanapali Resort $120Added Wailea $125Added 4* $130Added Kahului $135Added Kihei $140I then bid for 5/25 to 5/29 (fishing for the Makena Beach and Golf)Wailea 3.5* $120Added Kahului $125Added Kihei $130I figure if I get the bid for one date, if I really want to stay at the same place, I will know what to bid for the other dates.Let me know if you see holes in my logic. I'll continue to post until I have some success.
toddmcin Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 I'd like to stay under $175 per night. I've seen several posts for resorts and 3.5* for this price.
thereuare Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I figure if I get the bid for one date, if I really want to stay at the same place, I will know what to bid for the other dates. Not sure if you mean you will know what to bid for the other dates based upon your budget, or what it will take to win. If the latter, this isn't necessarily the case since rates are date specific based upon demand, occupancy levels, etc. So it's possible that the first 4 nites of your trip have lower demand and the last 3 nites have higher demand, thereby the latter nites requiring a higher bid to win (or vice versa)I'll also add that for the first leg of your trip current rates seem very high, and i think it will take somewhat more then you're currently bidding to be successful for a 4* or higher property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know if we can be of further help along the way.
