MeAko Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 I need two minivans for 22 days for our vacation in the States, am posting all the way from the Philippines. Since this is a lengthy lease, any savings per day will come out x22, this counts a lot for somebody from a third world country :) Would anybody be able to point me to deals better than the current thrifty deal of $48.99?
thereuare Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 I'm not seeing the $49 rate thru Thrifty... if you're still seeing this rate, what is the 'all-in' rate including taxes and fees... is it more than $1534?If you do go with the above please use our Thrifty link to make your reservation. MeAko Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 Nationwide MinivanRent a Minivan for $48.99/day or $225.00/week at one of our participating U.S. locations when you pick up from January 1 - April 9, 2011. $48.99/dayTerms and Conditions
thereuare Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 The details above don't appear to be for the actual dates of your rental since your 22 day rental x $49/day = $1078 (before taxes, fees, etc) whereas above you indicate a base rate of $724.Rental cars, especially at Airport locations, often come with a multitude of fees and taxes as they're an easy target... it's easy for cities to get voters to pass taxes/fees on rentals since the additional fees will almost never effect local voters directly (since locals rarely rent cars from their own airport locations) and they know it helps keep their true taxes down. MeAko Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 Yeah, I don't understand the math as well, but the earlier post and the post below are copy and pasted from my reservation. Is this a good deal already?Vehicle Type: Mini Van - Dodge Caravan or similarVEHICLE PICKUP INFODate/Time: March 24, 2011 at 10:00 AMLocation: SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT, CA, USAAddress: 780 MCDONNELL RD, SFIASAN FRANCISCO INT'L APOSAN FRANCISCO, CA 94128UNITED STATESMapPhone: (877) 283-0898VEHICLE RETURN INFODate/Time: April 15, 2011 at 10:00 AMLocation: SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT, CA, USAAddress: 780 MCDONNELL RD, SFIASAN FRANCISCO INT'L APOSAN FRANCISCO, CA 94128UNITED STATESMapPhone: (877) 283-0898PAYMENT INFOCurrency: USDYour Rate: 3 weeks @ $225.00/week with Unlimited Miles; 1 extra day @ $48.99/day with Unlimited MilesCHARGESEstimated Mandatory ChargesRental Time Charge $723.99APT CONC RECOV FEE (11.11%) $81.34STATE TAX (9.25%) $75.25TOURISM SURCHARGE (3.5%) $25.34TRANSACTION FEE ($20.00 per rental) $20.00Vehicle License Fee ($0.37 per day) $8.14Total Estimated Mandatory Charges $934.06Estimated Grand Total $934.06Thank you for renting from Thrifty
Colfax Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Your Rate: 3 weeks @ $225.00/week with Unlimited Miles; 1 extra day @ $48.99/day with Unlimited MilesIs this a good deal already?$934 all in for minivan looks like a very good deal already and I'll be surprised if you can beat it. All other airport vendors I've checked are at least several hundred dollars more.$225/week plus $48.99 for extra day is effectively $32.10/day. Hotwire's minivan is $66.95/day. Not even close. You can save on airport taxes by taking a cab and renting from an off-airport rental office. The Enterprise in Burlingame is close to SFO but their minivan is $1241 all in---$300+ more than what you've got reserved.Maybe someone else will know of something. Good luck and let us know if you find a better deal.
MeAko Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 Thank you for your responses Colfax and Thereuare, they've been helpful.Question: Should we consider putting another reservation elsewhere just in case when at the counter they then tell me that their "system" made a mistake or something, giving me a price too low? Murphy's law...
thereuare Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 You can do so if it makes you sleep better at nite, but i don't think it's necessary. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
MeAko Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 Another question:What are the chances of us sweet talking our way at the counter for them to throw in a Car Seat for free?I mean, are these things as simple as hotel check-in's when the receptionist can just bump you up based on their mood?
thereuare Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 What are the chances of us sweet talking our way at the counter for them to throw in a Car Seat for free?I've never tried it but i'd think somewhat low.
