KathinATL Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Hi - We will need to start our trip a day earlier than expected so I was wondering what the chances of getting this bid would be in your opinions or what bid/strategy should I use?Saturday May 7 - 1 night only (have another hotel after that)On the strip4 star at $65?I already tried on priceline for this same day and 4 star on strip at $59 and got a rejection. I want to rebid and was wondering if I should wait until during the week? Are more people bidding on the weekends? That rate seemed quite reasonable earlier this week so I am confused. :) I have checked several sites and all the prices are so much higher today than Friday. When do the increases come - any kind of pattern on when prices go up the closer to your travel date? I know Saturday/weekend rates are normally higher than the week but it seems WAY higher)Any suggestions, or help is greatly appreciated - thanks!
thereuare Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 If you have already made a reservation for 5/8-5/12 it would be appreciated if you followed-up your PRICELINE LAS VEGAS post with whatever you ended up doing or booking. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KathinATL Posted April 24, 2005 Author Report Posted April 24, 2005 I did - in that post. :) This was for a new booking - I have not had to do a Saturday night only reservation so it is a different topic.
thereuare Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Yup, my fault... i now see the IP mentioned but previously only saw the continuation of your bidding near the end of the thread.Saturday check-in is very though in Vegas and i think a 4* on the strip is going to take substantially more than you've already bid. There is a boxing match on the 7th at Mandalay Bay and that may be the explanation for the jump in rates from Friday to Saturday. What time does your flight get in? Do you necessarily need to be on the strip or perhaps (especially if your flight gets in late) you can stay near the airport or a hotel near but off of the strip. KathinATL Posted April 25, 2005 Author Report Posted April 25, 2005 No problem, I am still learning the board too and maybe I should have added it to that post since it was still the same trip, but adding a Saturday alone - and possibly at another hotel - was getting confusing so I needed the help. As far as when we arrive, that is the main problem, we are not sure when we will be getting in. My friend works for ASA/Delta so I am using a buddy pass. That is why we are adding the Satruday to our trip because the Sunday flights from ATL to LAS are all almost full already. Looks like we will have a better shot sometime Sat morning or early afternoon. Gee - guess we just have to add another day to our vacation - oh well you gotta do what you gotta do right? ha ha :) Anyway, the info about the boxing match on the 7th at Mandalay Bay is helpful to know - thanks! We actually got lucky again with Imperial Palace. It really does help at IP to be in their player's club. We were able to add the Saturday night - at $65!!!! Yep I typed that correctly! :) Whoo hoo! Also, my last bid - I did bid again and tried $65 for 3 star on Strip or Fremont and got rejected. Just wanted to pass that along too. Thanks for all your help.
thereuare Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Thanks for the update... i wouldn't even try further for the downtown area as:1) you now have a reservation at the same hotel and don't need to switch after one nite2) transportation from the airport-->downtown-->strip is going to add up, so even if you can save a few dollars downtown you won't see any net savings after the expenses are added inGood Luck in Vegas. KathinATL Posted April 25, 2005 Author Report Posted April 25, 2005 Oh you are right thereuare, - not trying any further at all - completely happy with the arrangements. That bid was prior to getting the Sat night at IP.I have been able to get some good advice here so I was just posting my last bid for everyone else's information in case anyone read this post looking for information on that night too. (By the way I did use the links from this site to palce my bids, just didn't place a reservation....)Thanks for all of your help - off to find shows now and oh yeah - gotta go learn how to play blackjack, or texas hold 'em, or craps! :)
dahammer Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Get a book on basic strategy for playing blackjack and read it on the flight out (along with the rest of the folks on the plane) :) and at least you will better your odds. At the IP, you will be near the Barbary Coast, which offered plenty of $5 tables. Avoid the single deck blackjack uness you can count cards as they only pay 6:5 on blackjack. Also, there is a good show called Forever Plaid at the Gold Coast, a short cabride away, they have a package deal that includes a show ticket and dinner at the buffet for $35. Check out the Ghost bar at the Palms, Studio 54 at the MGM, and Pure at Caesars. :)
KathinATL Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 Thank you dahammer - we were already planning on checking out Studio 54 - that was one place we have been looking forward to - but all of those are great tips! Of course I will do a trip report on trip advisor when I get back from winning my lucky first-timer millions! :)
