janmd Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Is it too early to bid for the middle of November for Marriott Marina or other hotels in that area? I placed a bid 2 nights ago and it did not want to take the bid. I know I have to wait for 72 hours to bid again.Trying to get 2 rooms the night before we leave on a cruise.thanks,Jan

janmd Posted April 22, 2005 Author Report Posted April 22, 2005 Thanks for the welcome!!! It is 11/18 for one night for 2 rooms. It was 150.00!!!I did this back in Oct. and got the room at the Marriott Marina for 100.00 for 2/26. It worked out great! But this time- not as smooth. It is the weekend before Thanksgiving.Jan

jluff Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Hi,I am actually going on a cruise and will be looking for a precruise hotel for the 12-14 and the night of the 18th which I assume is why you may want a hotel for that one night too.I think I am going to wait until about August or September for hurricane season to hit florida, I am betting that prices of hotels will drop for the immediate months following. This may be a stupid strategy to some, but people here were getting resorts last year for $75 bucks in October, and November. So, I am booking a back up now... waiting and then I am going to try to beat it later. You have sooo much time and many hotels do not release their inventory so early. Some do.. but many will wait to see what occupancy looks like for those respective months. Ps. I wouldnt worry too much about the weekend before thanksgiving. I think many of the hotels will have low occupancy.. If it were the weekend after.. then maybe you would have a problem. People link that Thanksgiving thursday with Friday to get to the weekend. Many people will not vaca the weekend prior to thanksgiving in my experience. For instance.. cruise prices are very low for the weekend before... however if you look at the weekend after thankgiving they skyrocket just for that weekend because demand is high.Good luck
runNgun Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 the Amerisuites is available on HOTWIRE for $66, The Hyatt Pier 66 is $140. You can probably bid $50-55 for the Amerisutes and win on Priceline. It's a 2.5* and a great location for the Port.
janmd Posted April 23, 2005 Author Report Posted April 23, 2005 According to what I have printed it out. Is the hotwire 4* hotel coming in at $144 is that the Hyatt Pier 66??It has Rest, Pool, FC, Spa, Golf nearby, Tennis nearby, BCWe need to get 2 rooms.Jan
janmd Posted April 23, 2005 Author Report Posted April 23, 2005 Bid was for $140 for the 3 * or we are now going to be down there all afternoon- thus we might want to go to the Hyatt which is the 4* or keep going with the 3* and add the beach to it. One never knows. Thanks for the advise to wait until in August.the catch is that we need 2 rooms. tonight I shall try again it will be 72 hours!!Jan
janmd Posted April 23, 2005 Author Report Posted April 23, 2005 BTW,This board is great! I have done a crash learning test on hotwire and priceline within the past 24 hours. I get to teach the other people in the group how it works. Well done! Great job! I wish I would have known this board was here a few months ago!!!Jan
jluff Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Jan,Have you read thereuare's rebid strategy..? If not, it is important you do. You can avoid that 72 hour waiting period much of the time.
just4kixx Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 the Amerisuites is available on HOTWIRE for $66, The Hyatt Pier 66 is $140. You can probably bid $50-55 for the Amerisutes and win on Priceline. It's a 2.5* and a great location for the Port. Yesterday, I succeeded with Priceline getting the Amerisuites for $50./night. Downtown FLL, 2.5* for our June 17 pre-cruise stay.WINNING PRICELINE BIDLooks good for what we want.Good luckA~ :)
janmd Posted April 24, 2005 Author Report Posted April 24, 2005 Well,Not what I wanted- Marriott Hotel Marina but we did get the Hyatt Pier 66 for $144.00. I think they wanted 168.00 for the Mariott, it that is what they wanted for the extra 20 bucks!! I know it was the same on the Hotwire.com web page.... And we don't have access to the coupon book- we checked around and it was NOT in ours...We are flying down in the morning and be there by lunchtime and have the afternoon and evening to enjoy the hotel- never stayed there before. I just have to wonder if it was not the 2 room thing. The hotel is right by the waterway, etc. So, we wanted that option. If we had flown in the evening- it would have been the americasuites. We have that taken care of now!!Jan
thereuare Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I can't help but to think this was a mistake... much too early to be bidding as high as you did for these dates.Enjoy your stay. jluff Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Looking at your post in the hotwire section.. I would guess you used hotwire rather than priceline?? Just to satisfy my own curiosity..am I correct?
janmd Posted April 25, 2005 Author Report Posted April 25, 2005 It was priceline and I did contact them, and if I could find it lower than that I would get credit. Could not find it within the 24 hour period. It was priceline- the same price as hotwire!Oh well- can't keep kicking myself. I noticed that the Mariott is not coming up on even Expedia, etc on the first screen like it normally does. This is a family Thanksgiving cruise so, we shall enjoy and start off right with a nice hotel.
