El Paso, TX Camino Real Hotel special-Orbitz

I had been casually looking at hotels for an event (ok, it's a RUSH concert) in El Paso in June. I wasn't planning on booking for awhile, but I have been trying to get an idea what to budget for a three night stay.

My original plan was wait till a little closer to the date and do some super low bids for downtown 3.5 stars (the highest Priceline shows for El Paso). However, while poking around for rooms for another trip I found that Southwest airlines had a deal on prepaid rooms for $51 at the Camino Real hotel. I had picked out my ideal hotel, a Hilton Garden Inn near the venue, but after perusing all the sites, I had a feeling no matter what I was going to end up at the Camino Real hotel. Didn't bother me, the location was ok and it's a cool old hotel. Lots of reviews said the rooms were somewhat run down, but that's not a huge issue for me.

I still wasn't quite ready to commit, but since I was looking for rooms for another trip too, I checked a couple more places and found the same price at Orbitz. Orbitz was threatening "only a few more rooms at this rate", so I decided to commit.

I did three Priceline bids before I booked the room, just to make sure (hey, I love this game). I tried $40, $42, and $45, got nothing, so googled "Orbitz coupon" and found a code: HOTEL5. Wasn't sure if it would work for this already discounted rate but it brought the hotel down to $48.45 a night.

Anyway, some sites rate this room a 4-star, others rate it 3.5, which I suspect will be more accurate. I'm not sure if this will benefit anyone but if you're looking to stay in El Paso in the next few months, Orbitz seems to have as good a rate as you're likely to get for Downtown

And yes, after researching I came back here and used your Orbitz link to bid. :)

I've stayed at this hotel (it was through some other special a few years ago). I'd be happy with a $49 rate.

The hotel is in the historical, grand style.

I had a *very* large room. It was a bit shabby, but the overall ambiance of the place is great.

I've also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown El Paso (a few blocks from this hotel), which is good too, but there is something enjoyable about the chandeliers and nice restaurants and interesting lobby decor.
