flahagan Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Will be in NYC from April 8 - 10 to attend grandson's concert @ Lincoln Center. His college group is staying at Park Central Hotel and I can get their group rate of $199 per nt. Do you think it would be worthwhile to try for a 3.5 or 4* in this area, or should I jump at the group rate. Today, the lowest I can find a room at the Park Central on any site is $279.Also, if I try to bid, what area should I bid on to be near the Park Central? Thanks for your patience.
dahammer Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Welcome! How many guests will occupy each room? If you bid through PRICELINE and received a room with one double bed, would this be acceptable? Also, please use the PRICELINE links on the board for your searches and bids. Thanks!
flahagan Posted February 15, 2011 Author Report Posted February 15, 2011 It would be for my grown daughter and myself, so we could make it work with a king or queen, but a double might prove a bit tight.

flahagan Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 Thanks - I read my message and clicked onto the HOTWIRE link ( I had already checked on Hotwire). It appears Hotwire has nothing that would be of any savings to me at this point. Still might give Priceline a try, but if I can't get something for under $170 with a blind bid, I'll probably just go on and book the $199 rate.
thereuare Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 It appears Hotwire has nothing that would be of any savings to me at this point.Based upon what metrics? I'm seeing comparable hotels priced a little less and higher rated hotels priced about the same... what is it that you're looking for from a hotel this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. My primary interest is location - walking distance to Lincoln Center preferably, and of course, price. I would feel better if there were a Midtown West zone, as the Central zone appears to cover a fairly large area. With Hotwire, it seems I'd be taking a risk on location just to save $8 - $13, not a very significant savings for the trade-off of knowing the name of the property. And I'm not familiar with the area or the hotels so I'm not able to guess the hotels' identities.Bidding thru Priceline, I thought I might be able to save $30 or $40 a night and they do have a MTW zone.
thereuare Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Even with PRICELINE's MTW you could end up a 20+ minute walk to Lincoln Center... i'd sooner resolve to taking the subway (the 1 and 2 lines stop right there) or spending a few dollars on a taxi and getting a nicer hotel, but if a specific location is the primary objective then an opaque purchase may not be the best option for this stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. flahagan Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 Just an update - I've tried bidding on 4* hotels, preferred areas being CPS and TS, using free re-bid zones. Highest bid to date was $165 without success. Any idea how much higher I need to go to win a bid in this area? Thanks.
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 I'd say you're likely awfully close (I'm guessing probably around $170-180, although hopefully $170-175). HOTWIRE has a 4* in MTE for $187 and a 4* in MTC for $196. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
