kleonetti Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Using the PRICELINE link on this site, with the goal of getting a property near Fisherman's Wharf, I started with a $68 bid for a 3 1/2* property in that zone, then increased my bid by $2 increments until I had reached $80 and had all seven downtown SF zones selected.I then started over at $68 for a 3* property using the same strategy, and eventually ended up with the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway on Van Ness for $74.I've never stayed in this part of the city, so it will be an interesting change.
AaronJB Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this San Fran property. Glad you are looking forward to your stay.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
Gallus50 Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I've stayed at the Golden Gateway. The lobby's not that nice, but the rooms are fine. Facing towards the city, the views are pretty wonderful. I also enjoyed swimming in the pool on a cool morning. Can't remember if they have a fitness room. Whole Foods is across Van Ness, quite convenient. The California line cable car goes right there, so that was my preferred method of travel. It's my favorite cable car line anyway, because it's less crowded. I liked it more than I thought I would. Hope you will, too.
Colfax Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Unfortunately the California Street Cable line is closed for six months, til June or July. They're repairing underground electric works and repaving the street. For now there's a temporary shuttle bus down California to the Embarcadero. If you're a Priority Club member, kleonetti, show your card when you check in. You won't get points on a Priceline reservation but they'll usually upgrade you to a room with the preferred "city view". The views on the other side aren't bad really but the city facing views are supreme.Enjoy!
