hummer84 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 I will be staying in the SD area from 2/3/2011 - 3/3/2011 and i've been trying to bid on 3* hotels in the Del mar area after reading people were able to get the doubletree for $43. I tried bidding that (and higher) now i'm upto $50 without any more rebid zones and it still got rejected.Should I wait a little closer to the dates before trying again?
thereuare Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 There are plenty of examples of it taking more than $50 to win a 3* hotel in this zone.Rates are date specific, so you won't always be able to replicate a win which somebody else has reported to the board when their dates are different then your own. As well, the wins in the $40's you're referencing were in Dec/Jan which may have lower demand, and thus lower prices, then in March. What is your maximum bid for this nite? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hummer84 Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 I would say my max for a 3* in that area would be $60 or so (definitely not higher than 70). Is that reasonable for those days?
thereuare Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 At the moment i'm not sure if $60 will be enough (it's close). I'm assuming you're willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of this zone (as this zone includes more than just Del Mar... Rancho Santa Fe is also included). If so:At the 3* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3* Del Mar...Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $55, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* Del Mar and re-bid zone2...Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $60Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. hummer84 Posted January 21, 2011 Author Report Posted January 21, 2011 I would prefer staying at the DoubleTree after reading so many positive reviews plus free parking. After searching the forum it seems people were able to get it for between $40-50 night around the same time frame i'm going. Could it be i'm a bidding a little too early?
Romelle Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Is your stay a full month (US style dates for Feb 3 - Mar 3) or a single night (European style dates for Mar 2 - Mar 3)? I'm guessing it is the single night, but just wanted to be sure.Romelle

Colfax Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Del Mar rates aren't especially high on 3/2, so I think you're probably bidding too early.Hilton $127Doubletree $143.65Marriott $169This might take some patience as Del Mar sometimes doesn't come through until much closer to travel dates. I'd book a cancellable backup somewhere and keep trying Priceline every few days now.Good luck and keep us posted.
hummer84 Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Posted January 26, 2011 Thanks guys for the advice but I canceled the trip altogether.I'll be sure to use this forum for future bidding.
