Hello,

I have been reading through the forums and decided to use priceline.com for my upcoming trip for February 21, 2011 - February 27, 2011. I am trying to get 3 rooms in the downtown LA area. We are looking for 3.5-4 stars for our stay. I have been bidding for 2 days with 3 rebids from $66.00 up to $72.00 with no luck.

Is there any advice you could provide for me to get a reasonable win?

We do not want to spend much more than $75-80/night.

Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to BetterBidding :)

I see that you need 3 rooms, how big is your party? You know that PRICELINE only guarantee a room for two adults. That could mean one bed only in each room.

Are you ok with this?

Thanx for using boards PRICELINE link :)

The party size is 6, so 2 per room is perfect. Bedding arrangements should not be an issue either, but from my understandings there is a chance you can arrange any special requests if needed.

***Update***

After further discussion, we are also open to stayin in the santa monica or hollywood area.

Sorry to keep editing, but by hollywood, i meant BH-WH.

Have you already bid to $72 for 3.5* Downtown? Or just 4*?

HOTWIRE has a 4* Downtown for $106. I think you might get something on PRICELINE in the $80s or $90s then.

For your dates Beverly Hillls-West Hollywood rates are higher than Downtown, so you probably won't save money by going there. Your $80 limit might be enough for a 3.5* in BH-WH, but more likely a 3*.

If you prefer Downtown my suggestion is bid to your $80 limit there for a 4*, then to $80 for a 3.5*.

Thank you for the advice. After further discussion and research, we are leaning more towards staying in either BH-WH or santa monica as we read that there is not too much to do downtown after dark. Any price ranges for Santa monica area? the upper limit could be pushed to around $90 if need be.

We are more concerned about having a good time in a good area and would sacrifice a bit more money for that but to a certain extent.

Note that PRICELINE's Santa Monica zone also includes Marina del Rey... would this part of the zone be acceptable as well?

If so, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better?

Keep in mind that Priceline's zone is "Santa Monica-Marina del Rey", not just "Santa Monica", and you could win a hotel in MDR or Venice as well. Look at Priceline's zone map for details.

A 3.5* for $90 or less could be possible in Bev Hills-WeHo or SM-MDR. A 3* in either zone maybe $55-75ish.

If those bid levels don't get accepted now you could be bidding too early for a stay six weeks away.

Do you have a preference between SM-MDR and BH-WH zones, so that you want to bid to your limit in the favored zone first, then if rejected bid to your limit in the other zone? Or do you want the least expensive 3.5* available in either zone?

Any interest in splitting your six nights...e.g. 3 nights in BH/WH and 3 nights in SM/MDR?

Hello,

After further discussion with the group, we concluded that we would not like to chance staying in Marina Del Ray. Therefore, we are aiming for a 4* in BH-WH and are willing to bid around the $100 range. We would prefer to not split up the stay between hotels, but if we can ensure some good accomidations, we would consider it.

I don't think that $100 is going to be enough for a 4* for this complete stay, but if you want to give it a try...

At the 4* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Beverly Hills-West Hollywood...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Decided to try $95 again, receieved a counter offer to go up to $120. I am assuming this confirms that there are rooms available.

Rebid for $100 with no luck.
