Wanted to stay at the Holiday Inn South County. I stayed there in May and it was nice - 3* right where I wanted to be and for only $35 plus fees. Great deal.

I saw that since my stay, someone else on this board had won at that same price, and then, more recently, someone had won at $40. I simply presumed that the $40 bid did not try hard enough to get a better deal. Nope. That's the best deal to be had in the neighborhood.

I started my bidding at $34 (someone had won at that price in August 2009). Rejected.

Bid $35 and added "Forest Park" area because the odds were low that there might be a 3* hotel in that neighborhood for $35. Rejected.

Bid $36 and added "Downtown" with the same reasoning. Rejected.

Tried the next day at $37. Rejected. Added "Forest Park" and bid $38. Rejected. Added "Downtown" and bid $39. Rejected.

Tried today at $40. WIN.

I knew all along that there was never any guarantee that I would get the Holiday Inn South County. There could have been some other 3* property in the neighborhood that would accept my bid, but that didn't bother me. If some other 3* hotel in that part of town had accepted my bid, I'd have been happy to take it. And there was also a chance that there was a property in one of those other neighborhoods, and if I had won there, I would have just sucked it up. Those are really great neighborhoods, and I'm sure I would have been glad to be there. I'm very easy going. I just like to win a great deal!
