LeStanley Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Hello, I will in New York 7 - 11 Oct. Since i am just come as a touist and will go to explore the city by the subway, I don't have any perference for the area I stay except the few really away from the center of the city. I was trying to book 2 rooms! Since I only have 3 persons to share the cost, I tried really hard to low down the cost. I had tried the higher bid for US 150 per room few days before and when I just about to re-try again, I suddenly think of a question! When the date is becomes closer, will the accept price incrase or decrase? My borther told me that the accept price should be most expensive when I have two weeks away from the date. Should I do it later in order to get the lower price?Stanley
thereuare Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Nobody can say whether rates will go up or down between now and your stay... it's all based upon supply/demand, how many reservations the hotel has relative to expectations and how many cancellations they get relative to expectations. For additional info on this subject see the related 'bid early or close to check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.With the above noted, these are expensive dates in NYC and $150 is not typically enough for this time of year. What star level and zone(s) did you bid? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. LeStanley Posted September 26, 2010 Author Report Posted September 26, 2010 I am looking for a 3 1/2 stars hotel.I don't have any perference area excpet those really far away from the center of New York, that's mean I will not consider Brooklyn, Long Island City and Coney Island. I don't have the budget, but from the front page of the priceline, I saw someone recently winning a bid for a 4 stars hotel with $180. That's why I was trying 150 and hope to get a 3 1/2 stars hotel. Thanks for your help in advance!
AaronJB Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 Rates do vary significantly by date in NYC, and there's no way to know for what date/s the $180 win was for. Early October is unfortunately quite busy; I think a 3.5* in Midtown for these dates will likely require at least around $225, and possibly $250+. HOTWIRE is showing 3.5*'s in Midtown for $300+.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
zebrum Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 do a search on HOTWIRE and click the button to send you price notifications - then they email you daily wether its gone up or down, in my experience it always goes down and best price is day before. Then use PRICELINE to get slightly lower than the HOTWIRE price.
LeStanley Posted September 27, 2010 Author Report Posted September 27, 2010 Since the price is expensive in anyway~~~ I guess I will wait later or I will get the room on the HOTWIRE on the day before. I saw something winning a bid in New York with USD 180 for a 3 1/2 today, I hope I can get a better deal later!Thank you for your guys helping! Will share my bid later on for sure!
dahammer Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 Since the price is expensive in anyway~~~ I guess I will wait later or I will get the room on the hotwire on the day before. This HOTWIRE deal may be gone by then, you should make a cancellable back up reservation and continue bidding each day up to your dates of travel.
LeStanley Posted October 9, 2010 Author Report Posted October 9, 2010 Booked on 6 Oct. $229 per night, with the tax recovery charge and fees, two nights, its ended up with total USD 587.49!Since I travel with 3 ppl, I booked one room thought HOTWIRE is still cheaper than book two rooms for 3. I was afraid will the room too small for 3 ppl. However, the hotel updated our room from delux to family room, our room is just like a small department. Good fit for 3-4 ppl.
