Priceline Hotel: Having trouble getting Sacramento hotel

Hi,

I'm trying to get a hotel for this Thursday night in downtown Sacramento. I've done that before through this forum (using the PRICELINE links, of course) and I've always been able to get a room for less than $100. I've now tried twice for this trip, and have gone as high as $110 with no luck. It's strange because the previous trips were over the weekend, which I would think would be a busier time, and this one is a Thursday night. I guess it's hard to predict what the prices will be.

Any tips? Or do I just need to keep raising the price.

I was in a similar situation for a late October trip and gave up on downtown during the week. Prices are, as in most cities (I think San Francisco may be an exception), much higher during the week (business travelers) than on weekends. I did book a room for two for a Sunday night at the Hyatt Regency directly with the hotel for about $120, but the rate would have been much, much higher the following day. We'll likely go through PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for a hotelin an outlying burb for the weeknights we're there, but we'll have a car.

Sacramento is a state government town, downtown can be packed during the week, empty on weekends. You don't want to be flying out on Friday afternoon. :)

That said, I see a downtown 3* on HOTWIRE for $49. That could be an option.

What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? What is your maximum bid for a 4* property before you considering lowering your star level?
