incoob Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 10/16/10 to 10/19/102* $73 <none shown>. 55% recommendedThanks!
AaronJB Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, without any amenities showing, it's tough to begin to narrow down any possibilities. The 55% approval rating by HOTWIRE customers is definitely low and concerning, though.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 In all likelihood this is one of the motels along Route 1&9 which is not where you want to stay in this area... it's "night and day" compared to the waterfront part of the zone. Are you looking for a less expensive alternative to staying in Manhattan? Will you have a car? What is your budget for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. incoob Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 Yes, I'm looking for a not expensive hotel near Manhattan (or maybe on Manhattan :) ).Unfortunately I don't have a car.My budget is maximum 100$ per night. And I need two beds in the room...Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Where and how are you arriving to the area? (bus, plane, train, etc)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. incoob Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 I will arrive at the JFK.And my budget (100$ per night) includes all taxes.
thereuare Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 You're going to have to compromise somewhere...First, the hotel above if located where i think likely, does not have convenient transportation to NYC without a car. As well, for a 3 nite stay JFK-->Hoboken/Jersey City can be a bit of a trek.If you are willing to make the trip, the better area (imo) given your price point is Secaucus-Meadowlands, where most of the area 3* and higher hotels have nearby bus service into Manhattan, and these should be within your budget. If you don't want to get to the other side of the island you can look at the LGA, Long Island City, etc. zones... these may or may not be within your budget (check HOTWIRE for current rates) but it's generally not a great area. It just doesn't feel 'clean' and not an area i would choose to stay for my self.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. incoob Posted September 20, 2010 Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 Thanks for your reply! Now I see at least two ways for me:1) The first way is to see on the Hotwire rates and try to select some hotel according to your recommendation. E.g. now I see the following hotel:Secaucus - Meadowlands area3* $89 Smoke Free,Fitness,Pool,Restaurant,Business,Hi-Speed Internet,Golf. 85% recommendedI think it may be Sheraton Meadowlands :) But I can't find information about the bus service into Manhattan near this hotel (upon condition I guessed the hotel).P.S. price for the hotel from the topic description now is decreased to $69 It seems this hotel is really not very popular...2) The second way is to use Priceline. I tried to bid there for all my time (from 10/16/10 to 10/19/10) before, but failed (my max price was $81 without tax and I checked all areas with 2* on the Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island City). I looked at Median retail price for two group of dates (the first one is from 10/16/10 to 10/17/10 and the second one is from 10/17/10 to 10/19/10) and now I'm thinking about splitting my state into these two periods because prices are very different. And may I decrease the star rating to 1*, because I saw in Chelsea Area the median retail price for the second period now is only $83? Or 1* Priceline hotels are too horrible?

These amenities are a match for the Sheraton Meadowlands. Check with the Sheraton website, but I believe the hotel operates a shuttle to the nearby Secaucus Junction train station, but there may be a fee and the bus fills up fast. This is a decent hotel, but without a car, you are stranded between several highways with nothing within walking distance. I had stayed here several times, the hotel seems to book a lot of high school trips, but otherwise, a nice property as long as you have a car.2) The second way is to use Priceline. You should look at actual hotel prices using PRICELINE's "shop and compare" product or Expedia. You should not consider anything 2* and below in NYC unless you want to gamble with your valuable vacation time.
