September is high season in Italy. I think you'll have to raise your bid quite a bit.

You can also try this analysis, if the Intercontinental is showing up on Priceline Vacation Packages (not sure).

Set up a dummy vacation package that includes your 5-night stay (so leave from a US city the day before). See what hotels come up.

Look at the price of the total package, and what airline is being offered in the package. Go to lowestfare.com and deduct the cost of those two flights from the vacation package. Then look at the total cost remaining, figure out the taxes and fees, and that may (possibly) have some relationship to your appropriate bidding amount. It seems to be pretty true for London, anyway.

If the Intercontinental is not showing up on the Vacation Packages, you *may* be out of luck, but I have gotten hotels elsewhere that weren't in the Vacation Package list.
