bond316 Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Hi everyone, I'm looking to book a hotel room in NYC for 2 nights: 9/24 - 9/26I found a 4* on Hotwire Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area for $188/night ($459.78 total). Searched using the BB links.Hotel amenities: Suite, Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry Facilities, and High-Speed Internet AccessMy guess is its the Embassy Suites Hotel.Do you think I would be able to find a cheaper 4* hotel through priceline for the same dates? Just looking for the best price for a 4* don't really care about the amenities as much.Areas I am willing to stay: CPSChelseaDowntown - SoHo - Financial DistrictEmpire State Building AreaHell's KitchenMidtown EastMidtown WestTimes Square - Theatre District Thanks for all the help :) !
thereuare Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 The above is a match for the Embassy Suites so that would be my best guess for this one.PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper then HOTWIRE, so chances are that you could do a little better if you want to bid for a 4* hotel, but you'll then need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone that you select, which appears to be fine with you.If you'd let us know your maximum bid for this stay we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hohogap Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 That would be a great rate for the Embassy Suites as the best rate online through Hilton for those dates is $319/night, full prepayment. I tried to check out the lastminutetravel.com site to see if I could get a match, and couldn't find a similar property in those areas to confirm whether the hotel might be the Embassy Suites. I checked 4*, although my experience with Hotwire is their star system overrates the hotels compared to Priceline. Of course, you often see an Embassy Suites rated as a 3 1/2* on Priceline, so your thoughts may be right! Looking forward to hearing what hotel it was as I'm always on the lookout for a great rate in NYC (whatever zone on Manhatten)!
bond316 Posted September 7, 2010 Author Report Posted September 7, 2010 I guess my max would be $459.78 total for 2 nights, since that is the price on HOTWIRE. I'll accept any 4* hotel in the zones mentioned above :) Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 The NYC Embassy Suites is currently rated 3.5* by PRICELINE... do you want to try for a 4* on PRICELINE, 3.5* on PRICELINE, or just go with the HOTWIRE offer? bond316 Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 I guess a 4* on PRICELINE because I'll have more rebid zones. Unless advised otherwise...
thereuare Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. Shimbo Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 I recently found that rate on HOTWIRE for my trip in October and it was the Embassy Suites. (I just posted it in this separate hotwire hotel thread). I tried PRICELINE before purchasing through HOTWIRE and was unsuccessful for both 4* and 3.5* bids in all Manhattan zones, but you have a different set of dates so it's possible you might have more luck than I did. If you are unable to get a bid accepted on PRICELINE I would advise not to wait too long on that HOTWIRE price if it's still available, at least for my October dates it's already returned to $224/night. Good luck with whatever you decide!!
zebrum Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 thereuare, I'm having trouble getting my head round your rebid zones post. Any chance you could simply post the list of what zones in NYC do not have 4* hotels? Thanks a lot.
thereuare Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 It's important to know how to check the re-bid zones yourself as they can, and do, change... and therefore need to be checked before every bidding cycle. What if we listed them and then the re-bid zones changed between the time we posted and the time you won a hotel (or a future reader sees an old post and uses re-bid zones which are no longer valid)... you would then end up in a zone you didn't intend and potentially far from where you wanted to be.We're more then happy to break the concept down further for you (or anyone else) and i'm sure we can get you up to speed, but if you need help with an upcoming stay please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thanks! AaronJB Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 What would be your current desired max budget per night for these dates?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

thereuare Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 About $200/nite bid (not all-in) is probably more realistic... perhaps as high as $225.Let us know how you'd like to proceed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Congratulations on your success!A very nice deal for this well reviewed hotel. If you like burgers give "Jackson Hole" (Third Ave at 35th St) in this area a try as the make one of the best in the city and makes for a filling lunch or an inexpensive dinner. Also, El Rio Grande (Third Ave ~37th St) has great frozen margaritas... at $10 and often served in a small plastic cup theyr'e not cheap, but they are very strong and you also get eat some chips with good salsa at the bar.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
