Priceline Hotel: Help/Tips

This is our first time using Priceline and we're not having much success, so would greatly appreciate some insight from seasoned bidders. Our goal is for 9-25 through 9-28 in at least a 3* in San Fran. Preferably around Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square or the Financial District. We've been watching this forum to see the deals others have been getting so started out at $80 and have been progressively moving up to $95 and still being rejected. Is the problem our dates, or are our bids just too outrageouly low for the areas we're hoping for?

I check the Calendar of wins for the dates I want & see what others are getting then bid accordingly

I usually bid the same or a few $$ lower than what the last person got for the location & *'s I want

I have only used PL once before but will using it again for SFO in Feb

Exactly which zones, by PRICELINE name, have you been bidding? What bids have you made at each star rating? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?
