IHeartTravel Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Hi,This is my first time posting on this site. I am interested in booking a hotel in NYC for Nov 19-23 (I will be travelling with my husband and our 1 yr old son). We are looking for something in MTE. When I search on Hotwire, there is a 4* hotel that appears for $213/night with the following amenities: Fitness, restaurant, business center, High speed internet & tennis (recommended in 95% Hotwire customer reviews). I have cross referenced the amenities with your hotel lists and have narrowed it down to the Grand Hyatt NY & the Inter-Continental The Barclay - is there any way to know which of these two hotels Hotwire is offering? Also, would you recommend that I also try bidding on PRICELINE for my dates? I have never used PRICELINE before. Thanks for your help!
hohogap Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 I love Priceline so long as you are willing to stay at any hotel selected in your area at your star rating (means you won't get preferred upgrades, etc. if your an elite hotel club member - usually). I also like Priceline's star ratings categories more than Hotwire. 4* in Hotwire is usually not as good as a 4* on Priceline. Having said that, I'm not sure about the Hyatt being the Hotwire property as the lowest rate for the Saturday/Sunday of your stay is nearly $500/night (although it does drop down for the Monday Tuesday to $300/night - prepaid, just like Priceline). I'll be interested to see what the moderators say as I'm always looking at good deals for MTE and if the Hotwire bid were the Hyatt, that's a good deal!
thereuare Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Assuming your NOT including your 1 year old in your search (permissible since HOTWIRE considers 'children' from 2-17 years old) i'm also seeing a 3.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating for this property. While both the InterContinental Barclay and the Grand Hyatt currently show a 4.0/5.0 user review rating, this information is only updated by HOTWIRE once a month or so, and the actual TA rating may have changed since their last update. If i recall correctly, the Grand Hyatt has had a 4.0 rating for awhile, where the Inter-Continental was typically 3.5 TA rating, so while not 100% confident i would lean towards this one more likely being the Inter-Continental.The issue with PRICELINE is that they only guarantee double occupancy (regardless of age) and with NYC rooms notoriously small, there is a chance that your room will only have one bed and/or not enough room for a Pak n Play (or crib)... where does your 1 year old sleep when traveling: in a Pak n Play, own bed, or in the bed with you? At least with HOTWIRE, should you run into a situation with no space in the room for your 1 year old, you could make the case with HOTWIRE that as per their search (ie- listed age of 'children') you needn't include your 1 year old in the search. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
