jazzfester Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 This is a great site, BTW...I saw your advice on an earlier thread regarding the Beekman and Millenium... Both sounded great but when I went to book, they were both listed as "On Request". Do these ever come through? I'm getting a little nervous about being homeless next week :) I'm not super-saavy on this yet and was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for me. I'd like to shoot for MTE or MTW, good value, and 3 plus stars Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is this a 2 nite stay (3/29-3/31) or a one nite stay (3/29 only)? What is your expected budget? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
jazzfester Posted March 19, 2005 Author Report Posted March 19, 2005 Sorry, thereuare. Two nights (29th+30th). Shooting for the $140-160 range. Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 Park Central for $172/nite is close to your criteria and seems to get pretty good HOTEL REVIEWS from some of our users. Not sure if splitting your stay is an option for your weekend excursion, but if so HOTWIRE seems to have the 4* Millenium Broadway for your first nite for $183/nite and then you could book any of the following for the second nite: 1BR suite at the Eastgate Tower for $149Millenium UN for $164.Or you can try Priceline, for which we'll supply a strategy if that's the route you'd like to take.Your thoughts? jazzfester Posted March 20, 2005 Author Report Posted March 20, 2005 Hmm.. My thoughts are that I would probably rather not split the accomodations. I don't mind Pricelining at all, provided there is something gained by it. Do you think I can do better than the $172 you saw at the Park? If so, I'm all for it. Your thoughts?
billyblaze Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Not sure it Qualifies as a 3* but the reviews on tripadvisor are not bad. The Ramada on Lexington & 30th has your nights available for $99.00 a night.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 At the 3* level in NYC you have one re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board. This is what i would try:Select 3* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $160, if rejected go with the PARK CENTRAL or on one of the other suggestions above.Any questions feel free to ask. jazzfester Posted March 21, 2005 Author Report Posted March 21, 2005 Huge thanks to both of you for the suggestions. Thereuare, since you asked, I actually do have a question. I feel foolish that I can't figure this out, but... I understand the strategy of bidding in zones that don't contain the star-level that I'm targeting, however, I'm a little confused about what you mean when you say "add re-bid zone" in your strategy. Is there a specific zone I should be adding? Is there a list that I should be referring to on this? Sorry for the confusion, and thanks a lot for your patience and help.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I understand the strategy of bidding in zones that don't contain the star-level that I'm targeting....Careful... it's not just the star level you're bidding, but zones that contain only zones lower than you are bidding. (so if you're bidding 2.5* and another zone has 2* and 3* hotels.. it does not qualify)When bidding 3* in NYC you have one such zone that only has properties below 3 stars, that is your re-bid zone. If you're not sure which zone is your re-bid zone (and should be used above) read RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zone with the board.
