Hello -

First time using your forum - seems like a great tool! Hoping to get some guidance on what a starting bid should be for Boston (Quincy Market-Faneuil Hall-Financial area) for the dates of 10/5 thru 10/9. Thinking 3 1/2 or 4 stars.

Thanks for the help, and I am planning to bid through your link to PRICELINE!

You should be fine, since there's not a Red Sox game during the times you're looking to stay. I recently bid on a 3.5 star and above in the Quincy market area and landed the Club Quarters for $157 a night when a Red Sox game was in town, which drives up demand. See my review/post here --> http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=113144 . You could also consider adding the Harbor Front to your search area to expand the number of hotels that you may end up with, which is in basically the same area as Quincy Market, with some excellent hotel choices. We stayed at the Intercontinental in July of 2009 for $120 a night, which was FABULOUS for a room overlooking the Harbor/Fire Station that normally went for $300+ a night.

Based on my recent search in the beginning of August, these are your possible options in both areas:

Quincy Market:

3 1/2 Stars - Club Quarters

4 Stars - Hyatt Regency, Ames A Morgan, 15 Beacon, Nine Zero

Harbor Front:

3 1/2 stars - Millenium

4 stars - Intercontinental, Boston Harbor, Langham and Hilton Financial

Bid strategy, as long as you do NOT choose lower than a 3.5 star, all of these will be free re-bids, so you'll get 6 bids every 24 hours. Check the board to see if anyone else has won anything in that area during the dates you're staying to see where you should start the bidding and go up in $3 or $5 increments, depending on how many days you want to spend bidding to try to get the lowest price.

Use PRICELINE link to start bidding --> http://www.betterbidding.com/clicks/click....src=1&id=40

Bid 1) 3.5 Star - Quincy Market and Harbor Front (if desired)

Bid 2) add Fenway 5 star - Free Rebid (one-star only)

Bid 3) add North Cambridge - Free Rebid (2 1/2 and below only)

Bid 4) add Brighton - Free Rebid (3 star and below only)

Bid 5) add Medford - Free Rebid (3 star and below only)

Bid 6) add South Boston - Free Rebid (3 star and below only)

Be aware that you could end up with the Club Quarters at a 3.5* level, although you are traveling during the week, where the rooms are extremely small for more than 1 person and manageable for 2 people. If you're willing to spend $125, I would suggest bidding at a 4* level up to your maximum, before you drop to a 3.5* level, so that you can try to get a better/larger room.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, I used all of my bids and wasn't successful today. Started at $90, worked my way up to $125 and was declined, but was only considering 4* properties. Tomorrow I'll start again but include 3.5 as well...

With very high rates showing for these dates, unfortunately I think $125 may also be difficult at the 3.5* level in the main downtown areas of Boston.
