eztrader Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I put in a bid of $45 for a 2 1/2 star in Traverse City, MI.I got a not interested response, so a couple of days later (not quite 72 hours) I upped it to a 3 Star and upped the price to $55.I get a response that said this is not accepted as it is a duplicate bid, but if I want to select a different quality hotel (which I thought I did by increasing to a 3 star) or if I want to increase the price (which I did by going up $10) then I could bid again. What did I do wrong? I thought going back in and increasing the star status and price would result in another legitimate bid search, but it didn't. Do I have to wait the full 72 hours, even though I am willing to make the change. Also, now the so-called duplicate has a date of 3/17 (with the original bid dated 3/14, does that mean I have to wait another 72 hours from 31/7 to bid again.Any info you can give me where I went wrong will be appreciated.Henry
Aprilmay Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I believe I can answer one of your questions, maybe both. You must lower your star rating, not raise it. You should always start with the higher star rating and then lower it if necessary (and if you are willing.) And I think you must wait 72 hours after your first bid. I'm pretty sure that your second attempt was not even accepted as a bid at all, since it was too early. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong!April
thereuare Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 The star rating you select is the minimum you are willing to accept, so by choosing a 2.5* on your first bid, priceline also looked for 3*, 4*, and whatever higher star ratings were availalbe. Therefore, when submitting for a 3* it was viewed as a duplicate because this star rating was already searched when you tried for a 2.5 star. It's 72 hours from your last bid in the zone... although your 'duplicate' bid was not likely viewed as a bid since it was kicked out before being processed. If you'd like a bidding strategy feel free to ask for help and supply the date(s) of your stay. eztrader Posted March 18, 2005 Author Report Posted March 18, 2005 Thank you all. I knew it had to be something simple. Like start at the top and work your way down. I guess we are all too used to starting at the bottom and working our way to the top. Who would've guessed.
