ksufan05 Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 I'm going to Europe in a month and the first 3 nights I'll be in Rome and then I'm moving on to Venice. I've started bidding on 4* hotels in central rome and I know I'm underbidding, but i'm trying to get a steal of a price. Couple questions:1. If the rooms are averaging $300/night right now, what is the expected selling price?2. If I wait until the week before, will the selling price go way down?3. I'm looking to buy at $100/night for rooms that typically go for $300/night, is it realistic to me to wait until the last week and get a room 66% off? Thanks in advance for the help. It is appreciated.
AaronJB Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)If rooms are going for $250-300+, then bidding $100 is probably going to be unrealistic. What are your date/s of travel? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

ksufan05 Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Posted August 23, 2010 I'll be in rome from september 18 through september 21.
hohogap Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Just a comment that some of the hotels listed on Priceline's web page are not necessarily the same ones that you might win when bidding. Before joining the forum, we were in Rome in May and our 4* bid got us Hotel Diana, which is just across the street from the StarHotels Metropole (listed on the Priceline hotels available for booking). We successfully bid $133/night for 4 nights and the listed rate for those dates was $265/night. I checked the web site today for Hotel Diana (they have great roof-top dining and drinks) and 9-18-10 is a sold out date but the 19th/20th list single rooms for 95 Euros, Doubles for 175 Euros, which is close to the listed rate we had in May when we were successful at $133/night. Good luck on your bidding!
thereuare Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 1. If the rooms are averaging $300/night right now, what is the expected selling price?I would of course use a strategy which bid systematically, but i'd guess you're looking closer to $200 than you are to $100.2. If I wait until the week before, will the selling price go way down? What if the hotels begin to fill up... you could actually see the price go up... instead of down. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
