trickyazn Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 I read through the whole guidelines for Priceline here and I was impressed with all of your great successes on obtaining great deals! So I tried the Monterey area for starting bid of 70 for a 4* and that didn't work out, I added Carmel for 75 and that didn't work out either. I also went down a to 3* and still without success. I am apparently over the limit so I won't be able to bid again until tomorrow. Are there any tips I'm missing? BTW I don't want to stay in the surrounding cities, only Monterey and Carmel. Thanks in advance!
Colfax Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding, trickyazn.Based on rates for your dates, a summer weekend, you're bidding way too low. You probably need to be more in $125-175 range for 4* or 3.5* in Monterey. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
trickyazn Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 I suppose is there any chance I can just limit the search for just hotels with pools? I understand both 3* and up hotels have them, just that the 2* hotels may not.
Colfax Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Pool isn't guaranteed on a PRICELINE reservation. You can guarantee by buying a hotel with Pool icon on HOTWIRE.In another thread you posted that you bid to $95 for 3* in Monterey and Carmel. Hotwire has a 3.5* in Monterey for $129. You might be able to get a 3.5* or 3* on Priceline for $100-110?If you don't want to bid higher than you have maybe try for 2.5* in Carmel and Monterey.
trickyazn Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 I can only source a hotel for 136 per night. I believe in the other thread the OP said he was able to find a 3.5* for 100 per night. I will bid a bit less tonight to see if theres any success for double digits/per night.

trickyazn Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 Sorry for a late post. I paid $110/day before taxes on my 7/16-7/18 trip via priceline. The trip to Monterey was awesome.Overall with taxes was ~$250.I stayed at the Hyatt hotel and spa. Great hotel. If anyone wishes to stay there, I highly recommend it.
